Religious Squatting on Public Office

Post by _sock puppet »

Well, Kim Davis this morning told reporters that she has a "remedy" for the Rowan County (Kentucky) clerk's office on the issuance of marriage licenses to same sex couples. She will allow deputy clerks to issue the licenses if they choose, but they "will not be issued or authorized by me. Any license will not have my name, my title or my authority on it ... instead, it will say it's issued pursuant to a federal court order."

Davis says that she has "great doubts whether a license issued under these conditions is valid."

I think she wants the limelight back.

So, how can she claim this is a "remedy" if she doubts whether the resulting the licenses will be valid?

I like the OP reference to "Religious Squatting on Public Office". That's what all this is about. "Look, I currently hold a public office by election, so I don't have to obey the law if I don't want to, because of my religion. And no, I'm not resigning."

Just imagine what Davis and her supporters would say if a statement like that came out of President Obama's office ...

Meanwhile, back at the start of her tenure....

“I promise to each and every one that I will be the very best working clerk that I can be,” Davis said upon taking office, “and will be a good steward of their tax dollars and follow the statutes of this office to the letter.”

If you follow the teachings of the late Francis Schaeffer and his allies, Christians are called to infiltrate all government and commercial organizations to achieve the kingdom of God. The Davis affair was a way to agitate the base and give Liberty Counsel some attention. I see Davis as a willing pawn in an orchestrated media campaign to confuse Christian privilege with civil rights.

She won't issue licenses to Homosexuals because of Leviticus in the Old Testament.

How many Old Testament 'laws' is she breaking? She is a 2-3 time divorcee.

If she wants to get all Bible Thumpery, then she should ask heteros getting married if they have been living together already, or having sex already.

How about a couple that goes in there, and the woman is obviously pregnant? I haven't heard of her turning those people away.

I believe the Bible mentions something about stoning if the woman is not a virgin at the time of marriage.

Is she affixing her "official seal" to divorces? The Bible talks about the penalties for divorce too. Even if she is "saved".

Bottom line, she is a back woods hick that his being used as a pawn by the Liberty Council, and they are crappy lawyers at best.

Why didn't she offer this so called "compromise" when the the Supreme Court ruling came down in June? Easy!! Her dingbat lawyers played her like a fiddle.

 It looks like she has quite a few. Maybe that's unkind, but I take an evil enjoyment out of saying it. I believe that hypocrisy is the greatest sin.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.
