What I think we have to compare is (1) the unusual nature of the word itself;
People combine different suffices to verbs to create unusual words like this all the time.
consiglieri wrote:(2) the proximity in time to the 2014 publication of the "ponderize" book by Rev. David Morrison; and, (3) the fact that they are both used in a religious context related to scripture.
The word "ponder" has been used outside of the LDS Church to refer to studying the scriptures for quite some time.

For example:
Although we didn't invent the term, as far as we know our use of it is unique.
Elder Durrant appears to be familiar with a prior usage of the term, but claims a unique usage.
Yeah, in a public statement the day after an enormous publicity nightmare about his son's attempt to sell t-shirts with the word on it. Millions of people googled the word on Sunday night. You don't think they were notified?

Don't know, but I suppose I should stop being surprised that people here make a point of assuming the absolute worst about LDS people and then just deciding it's fact.
Or that apparently, Elder Duran registered not only the domain name of ponderize.org on 9/4/15, but also ponderize.net?
These are just facts.
I leave the conclusions to others.
As well as the prediction that the unexpected backlog of t-shirts and rubber bracelets will end up being marketed at Deseret Book stores in the not too distant future.

I don't understand what that proves, other than the fact that Mormons are a bit goofy. What am I missing?
ETA: Also, if he used a word that another guy used first, what does that prove? Mormon leaders are already masters at taking words from society and using them in new ways. It wasn't a trademark or anything, right? Maybe it was tacky but it is hardly the worst thing they have ever done (IMHO).
consiglieri wrote:registered not only the domain name of ponderize.org on 9/4/15, but also ponderize.net?
Yes, he explained that he purchased those domains to protect them.

No, you've clearly been quite suggestive about what conclusion any rational human being, in your opinion, should be making. Again, assumption > fact > those darn wicked Mormons, all with nothing more than the power of suggestion and group think.

But to me, this seems one of the worst examples in recent memory of using one's position in the church, coupled with the ability to give a conference talk, to make money.
Maybe it's just me, though.

Pardon my candor, but what's the Internet equivalent of a Freudian slip?

It's not just you. It's an obvious marketing ploy which was deliberately planned and executed. Mak is in the 'in-group' thus blinding him to Durrant's binary etic rhetoric. But what do I know? I'm just an 'out-group' MENSA-level genius.

So you reject his explanation. On what grounds? Just that you prefer to assume GAs are money grubbing? The circumstances don't really demand such a conclusion at all. The most parsimonious explanation is exactly the one he gave. Why the unilateral refusal to believe Mormons when they say they're not corrupt?
consiglieri wrote:Maybe it's just me, though.
You really seem diametrically opposed to that notion, though.

And then immediately changed and then changed again and then abandoned and then directly and openly addressed the next day to the media? I'm glad you're not a judge or a police officer.
