In my opinion, the Word of Wisdom should have stopped at "moderation in all things".

The Word of Wisdom actually doesn't say that. It says to eat meat sparingly and to use herbs and fruit in season and with prudence. Mormons (and others) assume that it is in there somewhere and say so all the time but it is not. It's good advice but is not in the Word of Wisdom.
