FAIRMormon Spies on Members for Church?

I listened to the podcast interview with FAIRMormon chairperson John Lynch the other night.
http://blog.fairmormon.org/2015/12/10/purposemission/ I was surprised to hear him say that the LDS Church has occasionally asked FAIRMormon for internet posting information on certain unnamed persons of interest.
And that FAIRMormon happily complied with their request.
It sounds to me like FAIRMormon is at the beck and call of Church leaders to help them spy on members.
Do I have that about right?
All the Best!

Welcome to the other side Consig.
Of course the FAIRfux will do anything to get LDS INC to give them a reach around to cover the reality that LDS Inc is sneaking in their back door.
Its all about allegiance to the "higher" power, which is nothing more than a corporation wearing sunday best.
Does Scott Gordon(pres of FAIR) realize what a tool he is??

Thank you for the link. Here is a rough transcription of portions of the podcast (I couldn't quite discern the crucial first words of Lynch's response regarding financial support from the LDS Church):
Julianne Dehlin Hatton (JDH): Who is the leadership of FairMormon?
John Lynch (JL): So, FairMormon is governed by a board of directors. There are four of us on the board of directors: Daniel Peterson, Kevin Barney, Julie Reynolds, and myself. I chair the board. And then we have a management team. The management team is headed by Scott Gordon, who is the president. And then there are a variety of individuals who head various committees, including Content, Generation Podcast, Blogging. We have technical heads. That sort of thing.
….
JDH: Are you supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in any way?
JL: We['ve?] receive[d?] absolutely zero financial support from the Church. Obviously, our desire is to support the Church itself. We have a strictly arm’s length relationship with the Church, obviously. We will reach out to them when we find that there’s something that might be of interest to them relative to things happening in the news and that sort of thing. Because we do have our ear to the rail, as it were, and so there might be occasions where we will pass information along when we understand that there’s something that the Church might want to address from a public relations standpoint.
JDH: Does the Church ever ask for your help on anything?
JL: There have been times when they have asked us specifically about movements or about individuals and what we know about their activity online, that sort of thing. And, of course, when we’re aware of it, we’ll share information, as appropriate.
….
JDH: How do you get your money and do you have any paid staff?
JL: That’s a great question. You know, in terms of how FairMormon is funded, back in the early days we found ourselves struggling because we originally set ourselves up to try and use some of the books that we helped publish as a means of sustaining our activities online. And that didn’t quite work out. And we have, you know, we have about a 100 and so volunteers on a regular basis. And so what we did was we reached out to our volunteers and we said, ‘Look, we know you’re contributing your time and talent. Now we need you to put some skin in the game.’ And so, our volunteers all pay to play. We don’t pay our volunteers. They pay to help us. And so that’s a vast majority of our funding. We’re talking about contributions of 20 dollars, 50 dollars, that sort of thing. So that’s a big part of it. Our conference is actually funded mostly by itself, so it is funded through the, you know, the door charges that we charge when you attend the conference. And that contributes to our overall—well, that doesn’t contribute anything to our overall budget; what it does is it actually helps cover the cost of the conference. And then we have our bookstore. We have one employee—I wouldn’t even call him an employee; they’re paid as a contractor—who is paid on an hourly basis for the actual time that they spend working on fulfillment. And so they’re a contractor, they work at their own leisure, but they’re the ones that do the fulfillment for our bookstore. We do make a modest income. We heavily discount our books. So, really, that mostly just covers the cost of that. It does contribute a little bit to our income.
….
JDH: Are there any deep pocket donors to FairMormon?
JL: We’ve had a couple of people who have contributed what, by the world’s standards, are pretty modest amounts of a few thousand dollars. Nothing, you know, that would allow us to create an endowment, by any stretch of the imagination. We really operate, pretty much, off of the funds that I’ve mostly talked about here. And, specifically, you know, we’re looking to be independent. There’s nobody behind the scenes that’s, you know, pouring money into us and telling us what to do. We function, based on our volunteers, as we think best.
My question for John Lynch after listening to the podcast: suppose a member of the FairMormon board of directors publicly expresses views at odds with the Church's position regarding same-sex marriage. The board member expresses these views in an online forum. How should FairMormon deal with this individual?

I thought gossiping was frowned upon by Mormon leaders?
I guess it's another case of do as we say, not as we do....

So, I understand that Julianne Dehlin Hatton is John Dehlin's sister. I wonder how that is working out.

Looks like this thread got locked on the other board.
Together with its spin-off, "Would You Spy On Your Neighbor for the Church?"
And the mods have just issued a special OP that "The Trial Period Has Expired."
I'm not sure to whom that special OP is directed . . .

Maybe you can learn not to suck the life out of every room you are in by being more subtle with your disingenuity. It is far too easy a tactic to be disingenuous. It's like the idiot's method of tormenting somebody.
Plus, you're way too transparent with all your moaning about being released from your Gospel Doctrine position. Ego gets a a spankin' and you're going to obtain your retribution.

And you are the expert on being disingenuous.

You are a liar, Bob.
You continued to tell the same lie about me over at MDDB, over and over again, even though I kept correcting you.
You said I stopped going to church because I was released from Gospel Doctrine teacher.
You said it in order to demean me and attempt to weaken my arguments through your ad hominem.
You know it is not true, and yet you kept saying it.
And now you're repeating it here.
The last time I called you on it at MDDB, you said you really didn't care why I stopped going to church--you just hoped I would recover from it.
And that was another lie. Which I had to call you on again.
Of course the reason you kept repeating the lie even when I called you on it is because you didn't really care, but only wish me the best.
That makes you a liar, Bob.
You are not a good person.
