Well, I guess it's better late than never. However, it would have been nice to have heard a statement from our leaders about this issue 30 years ago when many churches and human rights organizations were publicly opposing this practice.

I'm glad he did this. As the LDS Church baptizes more people around the world, this barbaric practice impacts more people connected to the Church's own members, and probably more members too.

The church takes several decades to catch up with the rest of society. Some GA will speak out against South African apartheid during General Conference this week.

This is about as pathetic as church leaders using examples of Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King to argue religious freedoms.
