Several of the TV stations in Florida, and their associated radio broadcast stations, switched over to continuous, or nearly continuous, news coverage of Mathew starting on Tuesday afternoon. Florida Governor Rick Scott had declared the entire state of Florida a disaster area before that so that emergency supplies could be pre-positioned around the state just in case.
People who live in Florida know the drill. Hurricanes are nothing new down here.
Perhaps the fabulous 15 assumed that faithful Mormons in Florida would be waiting for guidance from on high via SLC before complying with evacuation orders from governmental authorities.
Had it turned out to be a real emergency, those who had waited for the word from the Lord via SLC before evacuating might well have found themselves in deep trouble, or worse.

DrW: "Mistakes in science are learning opportunities and are eventually corrected."
“Now, with nearly 20,000 members in four stakes and three districts, the Church is becoming a great blessing to the country of Haiti and to her people,” he said. “Thousands of faithful families kneel together daily in family prayer to thank God for His blessings and to seek His protection. I know that those prayers are heard and answered.”
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

This past week, the Haiti LDS' prayers were answered! Instead of praying for protection from the hurricane, Brother Francisco found his keys, which is what all the Haiti LDS have spent the last week praying for.

BEAUMONT, Haiti — People across southwest Haiti were digging through the wreckage of their homes Friday, salvaging what they could from a deadly and devastating encountered with the full force of Hurricane Matthew.
The central government's official death toll stood at nearly 300, but authorities working doing the on-ground assessment in the remote corners of the southwestern peninsula said it would likely be significantly higher when the full accounting was complete.
Saint-Victor Jeune, an official with the Civil Protection agency working in Beaumont, in the mountains on the outskirts of hard-hit Jeremie, said his team had found 82 bodies that had not been recorded by authorities in the capital because of spotty communications. Most appeared to have died from falling debris from the winds that tore through the area at 145 mph on Tuesday.
"We don't have any contact with Port-au-Prince yet and there are places we still haven't reached," Jeune said, as he and a team of Civil Protection agents in orange vests combed through the area.
As Haitians mourned their losses, they tried to recover what they could've their meager possessions. Homes throughout the area were piles of rubble, the roofs mangled to stripped away, the fruit gone from the trees.

Yes, perhaps there are some devout Mormons that decided not to evacuate.

This monster was devastating to Haiti. It seems they always get hammered and have the worst losses with these events.
