The Sophist Troll.

Sophist Trolls, or "philotrolls," fancy themselves Enlightened Philosophers or Learned Experts of the highest order....

When confronted by opinions with which they do not agree – particularly when they do not see any means of successfully arguing their contrary views – Sophists resort (repeatedly) to a variety of intellectually dishonest tactics. Most often, this is characterized by an overly snide, condescending, patronizing attitude....

When cornered they are quick to resort to personal attacks. A philotroll's bag of rhetorical tricks includes a variety of transparent ploys, such as willfully misinterpreting the opponent's words, committing Straw Man fallacies, accusing his or her opponents of engaging in the very tactics used by the philotroll, and so forth.

When engaging in their sophistry, philotrolls are among the most hypocritical and aggravating of trollkind.

Lemmie,
Thanks for the The Definitive Guide to Trolls" link. Had not seen this before and found it informative and entertaining.

However, after reading the description of each type, I would argue zerinus is such an extreme example that a new category my be justified. He/she could be breaking new ground here.

I would have to agree. This one fit the closest, but there are definitely some extreme religiously oriented aspects that could merit a new sub-category.

I would suggest that the nickname "PhiloTroll," however, is about as perfect a name for Zerinus as could possibly exist.

Since he/she exhibits characteristic behaviors of several troll types, the term "Omnitroll" might be appropriate.

One could also imagine "Fundatroll", "Religatroll" or "eternatroll".

He/she could be breaking new ground here.

 I think you should copyright those quickly! Clearly there is a need.

Deleted as redundant.

Lemmie types (and thinks) a hell of a lot faster than I do.

You're making this way too easy, Zeru.

I totally agree on the name. I thought the description of tactics could be improved.

Agreed, it was the closest match but not nearly descriptive enough. The only sub-troll category from that site that mentioned religion was this, which also has some of Z's approach:
The Holy Misroller (HM). Holy Misrollers are those online forum participants who give Christians (or other religious adherents) a bad name. The HM believes himself or herself to be a Christian (etc.) and will generally tell anyone who'll listen about his or her faith in God and in Jesus. At the same time, however, the HM will display decidedly un-Christian behavior, frequently making an *** out of him- or herself. The HM is often characterized by a great deal of anger and hostility. The breed tends to lash out at anyone and anything not in keeping with its incorrectly narrow worldview. The saddest part about HMs is that they do not truly understand Christianity at all.

That's a pretty close hit. It's pretty obvious that Z is not trying to reach people with the true path to a testimony, but that he's competitive and wants to win with what he sees as a knock-down argument that testimony is unassailable. He's the stranger rolling up to the poker table, laying down the royal flush and leaving everyone else at the table in awe. That for him the Royal Flush is the Mormon testimony is interesting to say the least.

That is a silly question. It is like asking, "Can you imagine a world in which the sun didn't shine?" The answer is yes I suppose. The other side of the moon is a world in which the sum doesn't shine.

That's a silly answer and a complete dodge of my question

It feels more like he throws down a pair of 2s, declares victory and thinks that everyone is in awe of his amazing poker skills. Those of us holding a hand better than a pair of 2s just think he's a delusional nutter who somehow got past security....
