MD Summit Lunch

To mark today's beginning of the open house of the remodeled (~$30m) temple in Idaho Falls, Tator (a.k.a. Sally), Philo and yours truly (sock puppet) met for another rollicking good time. A bright sunny day with the sheen beaming from the newly re-clad statue of Moroni across the waters and upstream from our own, apostate temple (BWW, that's Buffalo Wild Wings). We shared baskets of wings, some dripping in garlic Parmesan sauce and others laced with Desert Heat dry rub. Tator had arrived first, flirted with our attractive, sharp witted waitress of Norwegian descent. She wears a bear tooth hanging from a leather, shoe-lace thin necklace. The tooth came from a bear she'd shot with a cross-bow in Copperbasin. This is Idaho, and this is a girl who knows how to put up her own tent, obviously.

Refreshments included water, diet Pepsi (not Coke) and a tall Scotch ale. I'll let you all figure out which drinks matched up and were imbibed by which of us three MD posters.

The conversation oscillating from the frivolous (JSjr and the BoAbr, and tale tell problems with the papyri and the notion that JSjr might have been a pious fraud) to the serious life lessons, including Disney courtroom jokes, for example. Just when we'd devoured the the wings and our Idaho Bohemian waitress returned to retrieve the bones and ask if we wanted drink refills and dessert, Sally "Tator" Chase presented Philo with the Urim stones and yours truly with the Thummim stones (I was going to post a photo, but the ghost of brother Packer appeared and admonished that they are too sacred to show). Stones Tator found while digging a well, he assured us. Petrified wood mixed with other elements, polished brightly. Beautiful-thanks again, Tator! I know I will be translating soon. After all, as a kid, it didn't take long and my chemistry set experiments were turning out great (rock potassium in a toilet makes for a great chemical reaction).

Interestingly, Philo could not read from the Urim stones, but gazing at them could see an angel--skeptic that I am, I was sure that was a reflection of our waitress whom Philo and I joined in with Tator's flirtations to her. Philo is a visionary, with an unquenchable thirst for reading and learning, and discovering where apologists are glossing over important points. If not already, Philo promises the future holds every reason that the apologists will be the 'band on the run' (like that in the 1974 McCartney and Wings song; with the light to be shone, to paraphrase, 'the lies exploded with a mighty crash, as they fell into the sun. Band on the run.').

From my angle, I could not see Philo's angel on the Urim. I'll be testing out the Thummim later this weekend, maybe if I have some wine on an empty stomach and think real hard about the Kirtland Temple. Oh, wait, I'm looking for words, not Jehovah and Isaiah, when I look at the Thummim. Anyway, I will return and report.

And thanks too to Tator for lending me a couple of Rodriguez albums to listen to. He departed promising to listen to Marley all the way home. Philo proclaiming the importance of our particular brand of apostate rendezvous.

Just remember: there are good wings all around, when there's us at 'Dub!

Seriously, there is something comforting and wonderful to hear about Idaho apostates from our board meeting for lunch. I'll bet it was a grand time!

When I typed that out, I was still caught in a moment that I didn't want to get out of. It was hard for me to see lunch end this afternoon.

You two and ummmm, you know......(her!) made my day! My Urim was even hummin on the way home it had such a fun time listenin to us all expound on the mysteries and the mysterious...... another wonderful time, and YES, AS MANY of us as possible really truly ought to get together and share the full eclipse here in Idaho. That would be a gathering to perhaps kick start Zion goin back to Missouri so the poor don't have to see all their money squandered on shopping malls and cattle guards.........
