I was with my father in the mountains once and we came to a fork in the road and prayed which way to go. An angel of light appeared instructing us to go right. Seizing a teaching opportunity, Father instructed I offer my hand, as did he. The angel offered his and we felt nothing. We knew it was the devil, so we went left. Within a few feet we were pounced to the ground by sheer darkness and cried for our souls crawling back. At relative peace back at the start, we went right and all was calm.
I could see dad struggling and I asked how it was an evil spirit would tell us the truth? Father explained that it was really an angel of the lord who tricked us, he had detected satans presence to the left and so sent us that way, allowing us to be seized upon momentarily. This way, we knew very quickly that we could proceed right with full confidence.
I think dad was on to something, but I think there was more to the story. Dad was flesh and blood like anyone else, and now I realize at times weak of faith. Had the angel followed the key script, dad would have turned back halfway in despair, and we may have found ourselves still there during feeding time for the wolves.
Since God knows all his way is true and we were told the truth: this experience proves the integrity of testing the spirits. If we ever encounter an angel again, we will know whether it be good or evil, post hoc, just as the test proved the last time.
