Don't you think that the ability to BS spectacularly is developed to compensate for impulsive decision making? Here's how I see it working. 1) person has an impulse. 2) person acts on impulse without careful consideration of the consequences. 3) person makes up BS to mitigate the consequences. Rinse, repeat.
There is also the next step for the truly Olympian BSer. 4) create alternate reality to avoid the realization you've been caught BSing because your fragile ego can't handle it.
Both Trump and Smith are operating in stage 4.
