Taking Open Stories Foundation Finance, Board and Equal Pay Questions

I saw that the Open Stories Foundation response podcast is now up. Thank you John and follower.

He has made his record. I am not going to listen to it (Dragon much?), but will now answer questions to the best of my knowledge. I will answer the questions about settlement I asked and that he avoided (at least by the looks of the Reddit thread I read, because, like I said, I haven't listened). Happy to be corrected when my assumptions about his content or lack of content are incorrect, just not going to waste time on podcasts.

If you want my response to something specific that was said or something on the financials themselves, I won't be able to give it unless you provide specific quotes of what was said and numbers that were given. I say this because I'm not an accountant and I'm not going to spend time studying up on the Open Stories Foundation or aging (yes, we're all aging as we focus on this) through what's online. If you've done enough research yourself that you have a specific Q you'd like addressed, I'll tell you what I do and don't know.

My knowledge is limited, of course, to the information I know first hand and is therefore dated. It will be based on my knowledge of operations, events in time, and culture, again, not accounting.

Please add side commentary, trolling, Zings, and intellectual whatnot ;), but succinct questions in list form will help with any cluster (yes, that). The more distractions added to the thread, the more likely it is to be confusing for me and you, but this is a free speech board, so... thank you Dr. Shades.

If you feel a legitimate question is ignored, please PM me. I skim excess and sometimes miss important details.

I asked the following questions. I am assuming he did not answer them on the podcast because I saw a post that said he didn't address anything about me. Me seeing a post stating that he didn't doesn't mean he didn't. I don't know and I don't like listening to Mormon podcasts. People can correct me as they choose. Mostly, his podcasts are sales presentations more than reflections of reality so I don't give them much credence, but without even taking the time to listen, my statement should be held only in that regard. Those who care to judge can spend the time.

The questions I asked:

Can you please explain what you understand of the federal statute that would govern this case in Utah and the state statute that would govern this case in New Hampshire, what the states have to do with anything, especially concerning number and pay of employees, and what your decision was regarding how to handle a settlement, if any?

How does the number of volunteers you have giving hours and hours of their time to your 501(c)3 affect the number of employees you need?

How did that affect this case and, specifically, your power in this case?

How does your decision to promote your 501(c)3 as a nonprofit in order to get all these volunteers factor into this situation?

The following occurred:

1) John told me I would lose my job because he loved me too much to work with me.

2) I told John I wanted to keep my job and that he needed to work out his own emotions

3) John told me this was impossible. He was just too in love.

4) I was running a conference in San Francisco. During the conference, he changed all my passwords so I couldn't do my job. I was banned from all of the communities in Facebook I had created and managed for 18 months. I had been their admin and the lead admin of the main podcast group.

5) I reported what had occurred to the board president (Joanna)

6) The board president hired at attorney to help John get rid of me legally because, I assume, she agreed with John's argument that he was the public figure so his job was more important than mine. If he refused to keep me, she had to make a decision about how to move the Open Stories Foundation forward.

7) The attorney sent me a letter asking me to resign my employment and my board position.

8) Joanna sent me and John an email attempting to establish a solution making it look like we were both receiving equal consequences because we were "equals." The email asked us both to resign our W2 positions and reapply as contractors.

9) I already knew I would t get my job back when I reapplied. I did not resign.

10) John, who I assume was working with Joanna and wanted this legal solution because it protected him and the Open Stories Foundation, resigned and reapplied. This is when he became a contract employee.

11) I received a letter of termination.

12) I knew the board wasn't active (because John didn't want an active board, this was one of the conflicts we had as I saw part of my responsibility to the Open Stories Foundation to be empowering the board so it would run like a real 501(c)3. I assumed, then, that Joanna was taking this action independently with John and a couple non-board volunteer donors).

13) I reported what was happening to the rest of the board. They went into shock.

14) The board reversed my termination. The board could not convince John to reverse his other retaliations such as allowing me to even be part of the communities I had created. I was even banned from my home community in Boston.

15) The board decided it better start paying attention.

It took its first coordinated action and removed both John and me from the board before I had a chance to report details about the organization I had run (with John's help on the publicity side and an accountant doing the books).

16) The board was overwhelmed and did a very short investigation. CORRECTION (5/29/17) : The investigation I was thinking about when I wrote this statement was the shirt investigation into the business. I sent the board an email releasing them of the responsibility of doing an investigation into the harassment because I was scared and it was personal. I didn't want to talk about it. I wanted to put all of it behind me and go on with what was important to me: talking about the business.

17) John wanted me completely out of Mormonism. He told the board he wanted to shut down all the regional conferences because they weren't bringing in enough money. All the money, he argued, came because of him... the public personality. I argued that it also came from donors interested in the full business model I had established (worldwide network of communities, regional conferences, affiliate support groups, CTW). Previously, that year, when I had questioned why the accountant hadn't put the revenue from our most successful conference into the conference category, he had argued that it wasn't important because we all ''knew' where the money had come from and he didn't want to have to bother the accountant with that work. He shut down the business strategy committee I had organized to survey donors regarding their reasons for donating so we could improve fundraising.

John also let me know I was never to attend an Open Stories Foundation event or Sunstone conference again.

18) John wanted Circling the Wagons to go to Sunstone. This would keep me further under the rug.

19) I was very traumatized by all of this. I was frightened because I knew John was preparing a public coverup that would include publicly shaming me and using the community's sympathy for the "transition crises" he promoted to maintain his goodwill. I did not want my private life publicized for John's good while I was basically gagged.

20) I decided that I would at least save Circling the Wagons. I wanted to contribute my work and felt like I would be safer if I was at least able to continue working in some official capacity.

21) In exchange for my resignation, the board wrestled CIrcling the Wagons from John for me. I assume that was very difficult and time consuming because John held onto the URL for quite a while. He uses a lot of power games, so things that should be easy take lots of effort. I resigned my employment.

EDIT: I was offered $3,000 in exchange for signing a non-disclosure, etc. I refused. I knew John's head, what he was planning related to his honorable excommunication, etc. The board wasn't sufficiently communicating with me.

22) John made one of his visionary podcasts about the new future directions of the Open Stories Foundation that announced getting rid of the conferences and communities and that didn't mention my name.

23) About a month later, I asked the board to address reversing all the other retaliations that were still in place. Bannings, etc. I was mortified that I had been so thoroughly wiped away from the community.

24) The entire board, except Natasha, resigned.

25) I knew John had been talking to his SP every week because the church was concerned about the success of my communities and conferences and the influence of the podcast. I knew John wanted his September Six excommunication and that he would want it to be "honorable." I assumed then, that he was going to use his time with his SP to "repent" and then to publicize his repentance under the guise of a transition crisis.

26) I went on with CTW, had some successes and tried to get John to treat me like a peer and allow me to continue on as a leader in the community. I hoped, at the time, that he would become more reasonable and calm. Retaliations were not lifted. He made sure to exclude me from projects, etc.

27) John published his "faith reconstruction" podcast in which he falsely claimed the communities were full of weed smokers and swingers and told the public he was returning to church. He alluded to me and the difficult struggle he had undergone, but fortunately for him and the church, he had chosen the right. Or something like that. I knew it was bs and was about him wanting to ensure a public repentance so he could achieve his honorable excommunication.

28) I was mortified, to put it mildly. I knew I didn't have the public standing to speak up about what was really going on. All he ever has to do is record a podcast full of whatever bs he wants and hit click and his small world turns around in his fingertips.

29) I hired a NH attorney and on the last day of the statute of limitations in New Hampshire (6 months), filing a charge about what had occurred, using the date of my first termination (prior to my negotiated resignation). I did this to increase my power in the circumstances because John was working in a media campaign to humiliate me and earn him a promising excommunication.

John texted me this morning referring to "our story." There is no "our story."

It was very upsetting because the "our story" he has created in his mind is false and has been used to harm me. I asked him to never personally contact me again and I expect him to follow this instruction.
