Post by _RockSlider »

Bummer, our very own Consigliere has hit the big time and is now a pay-per-view level dude.

His content is now considered premium by Bill. You need to have a paid subscription to get his new pod cast until they have dated for a few months.

Perhaps now the web site can be organized to allow one to easily find all of his content from the home page. I find navigation of this site very hard.

Aww, you guys are too nice!

Because I know Bill Reel is devoted to financial transparency, I am sure he will have no trouble with my telling you the story behind this.

Bill puts up a minority share of his podcasts as "premium," which means they can be accessed for a time only by subscribers. He has around 400 subscribers, and I think it costs some amount like 12-15 dollars per year to be a subscriber.

From the beginning, Bill has been very solicitous of me and asked me if I wanted to have things put up as subscriber initially, and I have told him that I am more interested in having the material available as soon as possible.

Bill has always told me that I am welcome to a share of the subscription money that comes in pro rated per episode, but if you are doing the math, you can probably tell that this might come to the princely sum of $20 per episode; and then only if the episode is listened to a lot!

I am probably getting boring now, but almost done.

So all my episodes have been put up for public view and not premium every third Sunday until this last one that I recorded pretty quickly and Bill asked me if I wanted to put it up premium until the third Sunday came around and it could go public, and I told him to go ahead, but that I wasn't interested in any subscriber share for the podcast; that Bill should keep it for himself and for Mormon Discussions.

Having had a peek behind the scenes, I am astonished at the vast amount of work Bill puts into the Mormon Discussion podcast and things associated with it. He definitely earns every bit of money that comes out of it, and it isn't much. Not near as much as he is worth, if you ask me.

So that is the story behind my first "premium" episode. It will go public a week this Sunday. I just hope you can wait!

Crap...I've been refreshing my Mormon Discussion podcast feed daily since you announced that your new podcast was now available...I love your take on Mormonism and really enjoy your podcast....but I can't even get through a single episode of that new podcast Bill has put on...from what's his name, Naneek or something like that...finger nails on a caulk board...<---sorry that wasn't very nice...but he just isn't my cup o tea. Guess I'm just going to bite the bullet and put up the $12 bucks and stop being a freeloader

Thanks, Craig!

If you are going to subscribe, I would suggest the very first premium episode you listen to is the one Bill Reel put up yesterday. I listened to it last night.

It may be the most powerful podcast he has ever done. It is called, "The Spiritual Trauma of Mormonism."

It even comes with a listener warning due to explicit language.

Bill really lays it on the line.

Well...maybe right after I listen to your most recent release.... :-) I just want to add...I don't know what it is about Bill's Mormon Discussion podcast, I am completely out of the church, no longer a member even and yet I thoroughly enjoy both his and your take on Mormonism...I guess both of you just validate what I went through in my discovery that the church was not what I had believed it to be... Being the only member of my entire family to leave the church...I guess I just need this confirmation that I haven't completely lost my mind. When does enjoying confirming information stop being a bias?

I've been a subscriber for a while and can confirm the awesome sauce that is Bill's latest episode.

I'm not active in the church anymore but I enjoy Bill's and consigieri's episodes a great deal. Don't always agree with Bill, but I appreciate his approach.
