You know.... this... THIS is a seriously good question!

Post by _Philo Sofee »

On Reddit........ someone is thinking through things......

"I'm watching House of Cards because I couldn't sleep. The candidates are taking questions from the press. I'm on Reddit, of course, and I start thinking about how these "apostles" with such an earth-shattering claim (serious, they claim to speak with/to/for Jesus Christ) literally never get a hardball question. They have armed guards. They have private entrances to the COB, secure offices and even when they do go to conferences it's filled with yes-men and anyone with a tough question has to overcome massive pressure and hope for a 10-minute Q&A.
If they were true Apostles with a message from heaven, don't you think they'd be wearing themselves out with public speaking? Challenging people and being open for scrutiny? They can hire all the TBM MBAs in the world to run committees and sit on boards.
Sometimes the scam reaches out and bites me. How is it not obvious to everyone?"

Dear Philo Sofee,

In accordance with Universal Rule #6, which states:

  • "Cross-posting" from other message boards is allowed. Feel free. If you do this--or if you just mention content hosted at another site--always provide a link to that content so people can find out just what it is you're talking about.

. . . will you please provide a link to the post in question so we can all read the responses to it, if any?

Those 15 Apostles have the power of God and can heal the sick.
Why aren't they at the hospitals doing just that?

They claim a lot but deliver little nothing.

Miracles require faith. Where there is no faith, no miracles can be performed:

Moroni 7:

37 Behold I say unto you, Nay; for it is by faith that miracles are wrought; and it is by faith that angels appear and minister unto men. Wherefore if these things have ceased, wo be unto the children of men, for it is because of unbelief and all is vain.
38 For no man can be saved, according to the words of Christ, save they shall have faith in his name. Wherefore if these things have ceased, then has faith ceased also, and awful is the state of man, for they are as though there had been no redemption made.

is Zerinus arguing that the reason the apostles perform no miracles is because no lds have faith?! Not to mention that he's been proven wrong on this scriptural point about miracles requiring faith first several times before.

Maybe he is arguing the apostles themselves lack sufficient faith to heal?

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

How would they determine that patients lack sufficient faith to be healed, without actually going to the hospitals and trying day after day?

If somebody is healed by medicine rather than a Priesthood blessing, does that to you constitute a miracle?

You suffer a collapsed lung, do you:
A. Reach for the olive oil and nearest Priesthood holder, or
B. Head for the hospital with its non-member attendant staff

If you go with "both" then it opens the door for me to point out that praying to a magic 8 Ball, when done alongside medical attention, can heal just as effectively as any LDS mumbo jumbo. Hell, even voodoo will work as well as the Priesthood if someone believes it does.

Ignorance is the space needed for both miracles and faith. Information snuffs out that space.

Remind me again why James Talmage's younger brother died a blind man despite being given multiple priesthood blessings by the full quorum of the 12 and the 1st presidency promising him the full restoration of his sight? Oh that's right...he must not have had enough faith...yeah faith the ultimate escape artist trick.
