A girl who went missing from a Mormon church service in California Sunday had been abducted by a stranger in the parking lot and sexually assaulted in a nearby dumpster, authorities said.
The girl, who officials say is between 10 and 13 years old, had slipped out of the afternoon service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Riverside and was playing outside when the stranger approached, according to a Riverside Police Department news release.
Police spokesman Officer Ryan Railsback said the girl was attending service with her family when at one point, she went missing.
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')
This reminds me of the old deseret gym the church used to run where the paedophiles liked to hang out. I wonder how long it took the leaders to make an attempt to hush this up? It obviously didn't work as the media got a hold of the story.
"Religion is about providing human community in the guise of solving problems that don’t exist or failing to solve problems that do and seeking to reconcile these contradictions and conceal the failures in bogus explanations otherwise known as theology." - Kishkumen
This happened to my cousin when she went biking at age 12 down the street to her elementary school on a Saturday.
She was the only one on the playground, or so she thought. Until some perv tried to molest her. She was getting a drink of water from the water fountain when he accosted her, and she couldn't get away at first.
He might've murdered her. While he was in the middle of some daze as he was ejaculating is when she saw her moment to make a break and run away as fast as she could.
This happened up north in Silicon Valley, years ago.
She arrived back home out of breath and fearing for her life. My aunt and uncle brushed the whole thing under the carpet as though it never happened. After the police came and took their report, my aunt told them they'd handle it from there.
My cousin was not given therapy. Her parents didn't discuss what happened with her. She never felt safe after that. If her own family couldn't protect her, who would?
by the way, they are not LDS. They are Atheists. The parents anyway. Their daughter would become a Christian after reaching adulthood, at least that's how she sees herself.
