Op-ed: LGBTQ literature for Mormons

Post by _I have a question »

A Mormon missionary in Italy abandons his mission to move in with the Italian man he loves. A conflicted Mormon father is confronted with a transgender son who wants to be his daughter. A polygamist in 1855 Utah is ordered to take a fourth wife, when all he really wants is to be with another man. A virginal gay man takes out a contract on his own life to protect his virtue.

If I could have read stories like these before my mission, perhaps I wouldn't have stood at the railing of a ferry taking me from Sardinia to the mainland of Italy, staring at the water for two hours as I contemplated suicide.

Powerful stuff on the very real harm Mormonism causes.
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')
