The missionaries, said President Nelson, collectively constitute the lifeblood of the next generation.
“The day will come when they will sit in chairs that we now occupy,” he said. “Persuade them to become devout disciples of the Lord. Teach them to be obedient to the laws of God and man. As they so live, they will be protected, physically and spiritually.”
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')
So those TBM parents whose children have died while serving missions can now know from Nelson's promise that their children were not physically protected because they were obedient to the laws of God and man.
If only JSjr and bro Hyrum had been obedient to the laws of God and man, they too would have been physically protected.
“Persuade them to become devout disciples of the Lord. Teach them to be obedient to the laws of God and man. As they so live, they will be protected, physically and spiritually.”
So what are we to conclude, according to Nelsons statement above, about the following Sister Missionary...
Sister Sadie Danielle Wells, 20, of Kaysville, Utah, who had been serving as a missionary in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission since May 2015, died in an automobile accident on February 9. Sister Wells was a passenger in a car with three other sister missionaries when a bus allegedly ran a stop sign and hit their vehicle. Sister Wells died at the scene. The other sister missionaries were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
I think we can clearly conclude, Nelson is an uninspired douche of a snake oil salesman.

We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

Have you considered that perhaps the reason the young missionary sister perished was because she simply was not faithful enough and not living up to her covenants? Perhaps she had a masturbation problem and was defiling her sacred temple. The Lord sees all, including personal sins under the sheets. Perhaps the Lord's anger was stirred up and he destroyed her for steadying her personal ark. Also, she is responsible for the suffering brought on her companions too.
See what happens when you fail to keep the commandments? Unworthiness brings shame.

No. But that's exactly the assertion Nelson is (inadvertently? Certainly irresponsibly) making.

We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')
Was Nelson this screwed up in his thinking when practicing as a heart surgeon? or is he senile? or are the effects of apostle adulation by the LDS taking their toll?
