Single Men Over 30 Can Now Be Temple Ordinance Workers

Post by _I have a question »

SALT LAKE CITY — Divorced Mormons and single men 31 and older may now serve as temple ordinance workers, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed on Wednesday.

Until now, single men could serve as temple ordinance workers through age 30. Women already were eligible to serve beyond age 31.

The updated policy removed a waiting period following a divorce.

Let me see if I understand this right.
Prior to this, single men over 30 couldn't, until now, serve as temple ordinance workers.
But single women over 30 could.

Why the disparity?
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')
