Two on-line media articles I read said that Mission Presidents were to let the missionaries contact their families via email during the whole weekend to let their families know how they were doing. The questions are: Is this true and if so why did this MP not tell this parent as much?

ETA: Mission presidents for the three Houston-based missions asked missionaries to email their families and provided updates to families throughout the weekend.

Probably reasonably affluent and part of the in-crowd, whereas this other missionary may be poor or his family without connections. The laws of the Church change depending on who you are and who you know.

Exactly. I could have gone wherever I wanted for my mission due to my father's g.a. connections. My friends who were sons or grandsons of g.a.'s went wherever they wanted. Connections do matter in slc.

The mission presidents wife is involved in breaking mission rules with a missionary and their parent? Have you reported this serious breach?

We spent considerable time today researching the releases and forecasted breaches and where missionaries' apartments were located in relationship to water flows in order to ensure any missionaries in potential flood zones were evacuated I am pleased to say that tonight all missionaries are safe and dry in apartments..

but Tuesday morning:

There is still considerable flooding in the mission boundaries, especially in areas close to creeks and bayous. The two major creeks that run through the mission are Spring Creek and Cypress Creek. Spring Creek crested this morning at 2 am. Two sister missionaries were told by police to evacuate at 1:00 am. They called me and we were able to get them safely to a shelter and from there members only one block from the shelter picked them up and have them safe in their home. I have emailed the parents of those missionaries so no need to worry if you did not get an email from me.

So he researched all day long, on the whole TWO creeks near his missionaries, but missed the warning that one of them would crest that night, so 4 hours after his blog post two sister missionaries had to be evacuated by police to a shelter.

This is more than a little disturbing.

E Mailed the parents? He didn’t call them? He didn’t have the sister missionaries themselves call home?

The mission president was simply obeying the 'Rules of Iron and Blood which are eternally the same', whether it was from the Mission President's Manual, or the even more authoritative Unwritten Rules.

When the parents relinquish their child into the care of The Church, normal familial relationships are severed for the remaining time of the mission. So it is spoken, so it must be obeyed.

Wonder if the son was near the Arkema Corp of Crosby Texas?

Which begs the question WHY don't parents have their kids phone numbers?!

Not being able to make contact to me is just so not right...parents understand the rules..they don't really want to hassle...but if there is ANY emergency..it is their right to contact.
