Seriously though, it is off-putting as hell. Add in the General Conference voice (male OR female) whenever my TBM relatives think they are teaching me a "Gospel truth" (because of course when you leave the church your brains are struck with a stupor of thought and you forget all knowledge you previously had), and it just makes me see red.

This is putting it mildly. The church subjects men to a kind of sensitivity training/conditioning. F&T meeting is one obvious example, but it's far more than just the monthly cry time. It's weaved into everything. Men are essentially taught to mimic women. Women are presented as being naturally righteous, spiritually in tune, etc., a model for the men to emulate. You can see this same tone in Miller's piece. He is essentially bearing testimony of the church's "de-balling" culture and presenting it as something the world at large needs, and that with this #metoo moment it's the perfect opportunity to evangelize this churchy culture throughout the world, or something.

Ha! You caught the reference.

When I want to irritate my spouse I'll starting talking in that wavering sing songy voice they use in GenCon. I especially like to use the word 'moisture' when referring to the weather.

I wish I could find those really funny videos of BYU kids imitating conference speakers. There's a guy who nails GBH and a girl who does the women's conference cadence perfectly. I'll look around for it.

From the article:
As “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” warns, if we fail to defend the family, “the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.”

In addition to arguing that differences between men and women are real and spiritually significant, the Proclamation also boldly claims that men and women are intended, by divine design, to be “equal partners.”

So are Dantzel White and Wendy Watson equal partners with Russel Nelson? Can Nelson be a 50/50 equal partner with two other people who are all in the same family unit? How does equal partnership work in a ‘family’ where there’s more than one wife? Does it depend on who has produced the children? The article doesn’t seem to cover the eternal situation in which Nelson and Oaks find themselves....

Part of the Restoration’s great unfinished work is to flood the earth with this latter-day revelation: that every woman is a god in embryo.

I’m pretty sure that the correct noun would be Goddess, not God. I’m also pretty sure that the Restorations great unfinished work is to flood the earth with the latter-day revelation that every woman is a Priestess to her Priest or Queen to her King. In Mormonism, a woman’s standing is entirely predicated on her being married to a man. Any man. Even a man who is already married.

How is it a God in embryo isn’t allowed to pass the Sacrament or participate in the blessing/naming of her own child?

I’m not convinced the author of the article knows what he’s talking about.

And in ways that are as ordinary as they are systemic, the world has obscured this truth and pushed women to the margins. Beyond our individual failures, these worldly ways of thinking are often baked into the languages we speak and the institutions we share. They inflect our laws, our politics, our sciences, our schools, our jobs, and our media.

He’s making the case that the ‘world’ is misogynistic whilst the Church holds men and women in equal standing.

Staggering.

Add to that the commonly used phrase, "even Jesus Christ.." Gag! More times than not, it is used in a grammatically incorrect manner...something which would drive our Dr. Shades through the roof. LOL
