If Nelson croaks before conference?

If Big Russ croaks before Conference - was he "The Propeht" or not?

No matter what the Twelve(plus however many) did so far he has not been accepted and sustained by the church in Conference. As such, no matter what the claims are he is not really the President of the Church - just a CEO or a Corporate sole - if I understand it correctly.

So, if he dies how is he treated in the records?

They'll probably keep him alive on life support until he is sustained or they might even sustain his corpse. In any event, they will continue the process of having the Q12 doing the sustaining. He is the current leader regardless of what happens as Consig pointed out in his podcast on the subject.

Common consent is for the unpaid, and unwashed.

He’d become the President who told the fewest lies whilst in office.

President Nelson would still be regarded as the Prophet since, in reality, the sustaining vote is a mere formality. It is the bylaws of the Corporation Sole which take legal precedence.

For those who see the parallels.
Those who don't see, shouldn't see...

From Konstantin_Chernenko#Death_and_legacy:
In early 1984, Chernenko was hospitalised for over a month but kept working by sending the Politburo notes and letters. During the summer, his doctors sent him to Kislovodsk for the mineral spas, but on the day of his arrival at the resort Chernenko's health deteriorated, and he contracted pneumonia. Chernenko did not return to the Kremlin until later in 1984. He awarded Orders to cosmonauts and writers in his office, but was unable to walk through the corridors of his office and was driven in a wheelchair.

By the end of 1984, Chernenko could hardly leave the Central Clinical Hospital, a heavily guarded facility in west Moscow, and the Politburo was affixing a facsimile of his signature to all letters, as Chernenko had done with Andropov's when he was dying. Chernenko's illness was first acknowledged publicly on 22 February 1985 during a televised election rally in Kuibyshev Borough of northeast Moscow, where the General Secretary stood as candidate for the Supreme Soviet of the Russian SFSR, when Politburo member Viktor Grishin revealed that the General Secretary was absent in accordance with doctors' advice. Two days later, in a televised scene that shocked the nation, Grishin dragged the terminally ill Chernenko from his hospital bed to a ballot box to vote.

From the link above:
... what happened in the Soviet Union after the death of Josef Stalin. It’s a phenomenon that has been referred to as the Law of Diminishing Dictators where each successive leader becomes more useless and ineffective than the last. Puppet masters need puppets without brains or political skill, otherwise they’re difficult to control.

Stalin was a very capable and conniving leader. He was skilled, savvy and brutal enough to lead the Soviet Union through a devastating world war and see his country become a world power. He terrorized his citizenry and terrorized his Politburo even more. He was notorious for his many internal purges to eliminate any potential rivals, giving Hitler the inspiration to do likewise. Needless to say, there was a massive sigh of relief among the Politburo members after Stalin’s passing.

Resolved to never allow such a powerful and charismatic leader to lead the Soviet Union ever again (i.e. fearing for their collective asses and the ongoing social brutality), the Politburo decided that Nikita Khrushchev, a barely literate peasant, would be a reasonable successor. As benign as he appeared to be, however, he proved to be a bit more unpredictable than expected as witnessed by his ‘we will bury you’ shoe-pounding Cuban Missile Crisis tenure. He was eventually replaced by Leonid Brezhnev, who was yet another step down the evolutionary ladder. Brezhnev proved to be very good at two things and two things only: collecting cars and showing off his countless shiny medals.

Just when the Soviets thought they had outdone themselves with their successive string of low-brow and ineffectual leaders, along comes Yuri Andropov. He was 70 years old when he took office, was in poor health, and died after only 13 months in power. Then came the coup de grace with Konstantin Chernenko, the 73 year old comatose General Secretary. In one infamous moment, Politburo member Viktor Grishin dragged the terminally ill Chernenko from his hospital bed to a ballot box to vote in the 1985 elections.

by the way:
Something up to date material from above...

It’s a phenomenon that has been referred to as the Law of Diminishing Dictators where each successive leader becomes more useless and ineffective than the last. Puppet masters need puppets without brains or political skill, otherwise they’re difficult to control. --- but this is another topic.

He is not a prophet and never was one. And it doesn't matter how long he lives, he will never be a prophet.

Don't know if it is mean or not.
Given his age it is possible he doesn't make it til then. If he does it is more likely he won't be the head guy very long.
Then again, he could surprise us and live to be 103?

The practice of Oldest senior guy is a real killer for the leadership. They don't have to do it as their bylaws don't require it. Would really surprise the membership if they bypassed the senior apostle and went with a much younger one next time. Sure would generate a lot of speculation. Might even see schisms forming if that happened.
