More Evidence that Terryl Givens is in Apostasy
If this is not Universalism, I don't know what is. Mormonism certainly never taught this to me when I was growing up... There has never yet been a prophet who has taught this, yet if it was an early Christian belief and teaching, why wasn't it restored in Mormonism? Mormonism still does not teach this to this day. McConkie just has to be rolling in his grave. Thank goodness he is a dead prophet now eh? Now if only today's church leaders would teach this truth eh? You have never heard this in General Conference have you? I sure haven't.

I find it fascinating that members such as Givens, feel able to add to what the Church Leaders and the Church provide for members. Do they feel they know better? Do they feel the Apostles aren’t giving members enough material? Or are they lost in a feeling of self importance? Maybe it’s a desire to make money out of Church members. Who knows.
That there is such a vacuum in Church material that people like Givens feel justified, should be a cause of concern, not celebration.

McConckie would have swatted Givens down as being heretical for sure. Today, though, the Q15 probably see the hemorraging numbers and want to stanch it however possible, even if it means allowing someone like Givens to change doctrine. If he can stop people from leaving he is supported, probably behind the scenes. As long as he doesn't dissuade from pay, pray, and obey, he is on solid ground.

I find it rather encouraging that he is in saying what he thinks. He's definitely pushing the boundaries of the Church and is showing signs of allowing members to participate in the way they can.

See echos of ancient pagan philosophy in there. Cool.

This could explain how Dr. Givens missed out of being a General Authority. It seems that he has a penchant to think for himself.

Also he is distant enough to be thrown under the bus at any moment.
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

At least Professor Peterson references his source on this one.
In fact, the entire blog seems to be nothing but a quote from another source.

Wavering members fawn all over him and he makes money off his nuanced apologetics. There's your two main motives.

That is perhaps one of Dr. Peterson's best blog posts. It is also something to praise the Givens over, rather than being concerned that they might be out of step with Sharia-Mormonism's harsh gospel.
