Purity, Modesty, "Victorian Effect" create Joseph L Bishops

The church needs to stop teaching that sex outside marriage is a sin. The purity and modesty culture could be creating many Joseph L Bishops. If the church really cares about fighting and ending sexual abuse crimes then it needs to end the war on sex immediately.
A paper I read says, "the “Victorian effect”: the more that people covered up their bodies with clothes in those days, the greater the mystery of what they looked like in the nude. The sight of a woman’s ankle was considered shocking and erotic"
Making sex a serious sin can create a "Paradox of Temptation" which is a disaster. It is amazing no one is talking about this stuff. The Victorian effect is an explanation of why Utah and BYU have a rape problem. Ending the Victorian effect could help reduce the number of sexual assault crimes.

I'm with ya, but I think it would be easier to require everyone with a vagina to carry a gun than it would be to get Mormons and Muslims to ease their modesty standards.

The problem is that the church will quickly lose control over its members if it loses control of the bedroom.
If you removed sexual shame, you would remove the cycle of guilt, social isolation, quick and early marriages, etc. that keeps Mormons in their own micro-communities.

That's exactly right. That's one reason why they are so heavily addicted to the idea of not masturbating. The leadership of the church is obsessed with masturbation and realizes it needs this in order to control members of the church. Once they lose their ability to keep the members and especially the youth from masturbating then it's GAME OVER. The LDS will slide into oblivion.

Letting go of that control would mean letting the Church and its members enter the light and experience humanity in a less destructive manner.
