June 24, 2014, Marissa and other sister missionaries have a special meeting with Sheri Dew, where Sheri Dew talked about grace. Elder Zwick was also in attendance, as acting Mission President.

We had a "Sister's Only" meeting with Sherri Dew yesterday in Guaynabo. We had to stay at the Sisters' apartment in Juana Diaz Sunday night. Their house is infested with cockroaches! I slept awfully due to the fact that there was a dog barking all night and then my mind kept thinking I had baby cockroaches and bedbugs all over me. I woke up about every hour. But to be more positive, the meeting was SUPER great! I think that was the last meeting we'll ever be having with the Zwicks, too, since our new Mission President gets here this week. So it was bittersweet. I'll miss them a lot and I have learned SO much from them. Sherri Dew spoke a lot about grace, and I really liked it. I want to read her books. I was thankful to meet her. But anyway, since we didn't get to write yesterday, we got to write today. I'm thankful for that, too. I was really anxious to hear about everything that happened this past week!

On June 30, 2014, Marissa's companion complains about having been to meetings every week for the past seven weeks.

Gee, that would take it back to the time President Smartt was released, I think.

Wonder what was discussed in those weekly meetings?

No news about the new Mission President. We have a Zone Conference tomorrow, so if he's there, we'll meet him and his wife. We're excited. Sister L__ says she's tired of having so many meetings. She said she's had one about every week now for the past 7 weeks. Haha and now we're having another one. She's so funny.

Marissa's last letter to her family before going home ends with this:

Well anyway, that's all I've got to say. I'll tell you more about life when I come home. SEE YOU SOON!! I love you! I'll probably call you when I'm at the airport in Texas. HOLLA!

Smartt arrived July 1, 2013.

Within two weeks he is making "weird" sister missionary tranfers.

This from Marissa's July 15, 2013 letter home:

We had a weird thing happen this week, Pres. Smartt called and transferred Hna. Brotherson, and she’ll be serving in Mayaguez with my trainer, Hna. Flores. I’m not sure why they did transfers early, but I’m excited to be working in a three-some this week with Hermana G.and Hermana E. It’ll be a great learning experience. I’ll be working with Hna. G. for another six weeks, too. I’m thankful for her and am learning a lot.

Marissa is a doll!

Strangely, her last mission entry ends the week of April, 2014, when President Smartt was sent home.

I recall from another missionary blog that the shooting and Smartt's dismissal happened at the same time.

So our interviews never worked out because on Saturday, the day President Smartt was supposed to come, an Elder got shot twice in Puerto Rico, so he had to cancel.[/b] Hopefully he'll be able to come soon, but if not, that's okay. Sister Butler was actually going to be getting transferred but because of the incident, he put it on hold. I'm glad because I'm not exactly ready to take the reins here by myself. But to put a rest to your worries, the Elder is perfectly fine. The intended target is dead, these two Elders just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Luckily, the Lord spared his life. Still waiting for details, though. I'm sure President will let you all know in an email, too. If not, just ask me for the juicy details next week.

I don't remember that a missionary was shot there! Do you have a link to any stories on that?

This from Marissa's July 19, 2013 letter home:

Yesterday, Sunday, was the best day of the week for me. We had 3 surprise visitors there in our Sacrament Meeting: President Smartt showed up with his family, the Stake President, and the Area 70, President Anderson. I'm not sure why they came to the Pontezuela ward, but it was really special because J. was confirmed. He felt really special that the President came, too, since he had conducted his baptismal interview, and when he learned who the other two men are, he was really humbled. I don't exactly think they were there for that, but still.

November 18, 2013, President Smartt tells Marissa she will be going to the islands in a few weeks.

President Smartt said I'd be going to the islands in a few weeks, so we'll see. I'll be sure to let you know what'll happen.

December 9, 2013.

So President Smartt just informed me that he's sending me to the island of Tortola on Wednesday. I'll be there till Saturday and will be working with Hermana Burgess. I'm super excited to be preaching the Gospel in English for the first time! This trip couldn't have come at a better time since I've been getting bored of the normal routine. But I'll be celebrating my 9-month mark on the island! Woo hoo! :) And Dad, it's not a vacation. I'll still be contacting and teaching, just in a different place and in a different language! I'm STOKED! :)

It is an unusual thing for a missionary to be "sent" to a different area in the mission, but only for a few days.

If I am understanding correctly, that is what is going on here.
