I was digging for my old blue colored scripture case I carried around on my mission, getting ready to dust it off and head on back as a sign of good will if nothing else thanks to this. Then I learned it was a fake. I'm not used to heading down the emotional roller coaster like that. Fewf! what a ride.

This was a despicable move. How many people of color cried tears of joy today, prayed in thanks, and then found out it was fake?

The point could have been made without making the website deceptive.

But maybe not as effectively.
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

Well, if it was true it would have been the beginning to Pandora's box because the church has a great deal of things to apologize for. For example: The church needs to apologize to every boy they've shamed simply because he admitted to masturbating during a confession to a probing bishop. The church needs to apologize to the ancient Egyptians for mocking the sacred papyrus desecrated by Joseph Smith.

The list goes on and on. Stupid, dumb, Mormons.

I seriously doubt that the number of black LDS members who are both fooled and react the way you describe, numbers more than a handful.

The point is best served by mimicking as closely as possible how the church would have presented this, in fact there were several people at MAD that were fooled and expressed their joy at the announcement some of which are usually staunch defenders such as Bluebell.

What such a good satire does here is see how much believing members really believe the church should be apologizing. I note that no one who was fooled over there was against the apology and I seriously doubt you would find many who would be against such an apology if they believed it came from the prophet. So what we see are people who are afraid to express their real thoughts on an issue like this until it agrees with the prophet.

It actually started a post before my link but when the poster Gray found out it was a spoof, he deleted his post about it.
