I read that post and thought, “Good grief! You take all those precautions, but then you think it’s just fine for a man to be alone behind closed doors with a child or youth and ask them questions aboit masturbation and sex?” How does that make sense?????

I thought he was just mocking the precautions taken by institutions that care for children. Was he serious about all that? If so, that's just bizarre. But then, he (and I think moinmoin) did also argue in that thread that just willy-nilly calling the police at the drop of a hat when bishops become aware of a criminal offense can complicate things, therefore it is a good thing the Mormon help line is there to stop them from doing that without first considering how to minimize the effect on lds church headquarters.

I'm afraid to even ask what that one post is about, much less read it. Is he talking about children toileting? Tissues? Disposable gloves? To avoid stimulation? Of WHAT exactly?

What exactly is he touching on toileting children and how does he think gloves avoid stimulation?

God. Don't answer me. I don't wanna know.

"Member" refers to his own organ, not anyone else, I'm quite sure.

So what you're saying is that he's an organist who thinks that wearing gloves while playing will stop the music from being played?

I'm pretty sure you can still play the organ with gloves on.

See how under the radar I can get my point across and still make it sound like I'm not being dirty minded about it? That's a gift, I tell you. It's a gift.

Of course, an EXPERIENCED person ( shame shame ) knows that, but a pure heart with clean hands can only speculate that bare hands might increase the temptation. Whatta stand-up guy.

Speaking of smac's posts in that thread, in his efforts to justify the lds past approach, he ties himself in knots and ultimately, trying to defend bishops calling the lds helpline and not the police first (or even not at all) he ends up posting nonsense like this about reporting sexual abuse to the authorities:
....If the police get involved, then the abuser may end up getting arrested (which can be distressing when it's a family member, even to the victim).

If the police get involved, then the "secret" is out, which may enhance the confusion / despair / shame / guilt (at least that's the fear the victim may have).

If the police get involved, then the police (and/or DCFS) intrude into the home, ask very sensitive questions, and do so by the coercive power of government....

Yes, because protecting the secret and not upsetting other family members really helps the victim.

In the end he does try to get back on track...
....And so it goes. But you know what? The police and DCFS still need to be involved.
