https://www.deseretnews.com/article/900 ... evada.html I just saw this, and don't know anything more than what is in the article. Apparently a member of the the Fallon Nevada ward walked in right after the passing of the sacrament had finished and shot another member. He then went home where he latter surrendered to police.
I can't imagine the trauma something like this would cause to those in attendance (especially children).

There was a poster removed at the Great and Specious board for noting that this shooting involving a home teacher would put a lot of people off from ministering.
I suspect quite a few members throughout Utah will be packing next Sunday in anticipation of needing to take out any more shooters.

that's the summary of the article I read it from, but the article is now updated to read:
When the sacrament service was complete and as the meeting’s first speaker began to talk, O’Connor, 48, stood up, walked through the chapel’s west door, drew a handgun and at point-blank range shot and killed Bert Miller, 61, a man he had known for years, witnesses and police said.

I have a friend whose son was serving a mission in Fallon and was just transferred out a few weeks ago. You can imagine my friend is a bit freaked out.

Thanks, Lemmie. I'm in a group where a person, a relative of people present at the shooting, is posting.

Oh dear, that must have been so traumatic. I can only imagine what must have gone through the heads of the people in the congregation as it unfolded, especially the children. That is terrifying.
You said you had heard otherwise, what did you mean, if it is not too intrusive to ask?

That it wasn't the home teacher.
Also, the shooter apparently had a conversation with the commenter's parents in the foyer while waiting for Sacrament to end. He then walked into the chapel.
Can you imagine? Ugh.

FYI
The John O'Connor involved in the shooting is a different person than the John O'Connor that was on Mormon Stories in August of 2017. He is the one that did an interview about not being allowed to contact his son on a mission in Houston when a hurricane hit.
https://www.mormonstories.org/podcast/parent-of-mormon-missionary-not-allowed-to-contact-son/I was worried at first because I used to work with the John O'Connor that was in the interview about 15 years ago. When I heard his name on the news I was worried until I looked up a picture of the shooter and it wasn't him.
