The 2018 Sampson Avard Golden Scepter Award

My Dear Friends and Colleagues:

I feel a great deal of gratitude towards Cassius University for its generosity in letting me continue to present the annual Sampson Avard Golden Scepter Award--a great honor which, since its inception, has been given to a person--nearly always a believing and committed Latter-day Saint--who has contributed the most to our understanding of Mopologetics. This year, I'm very pleased to say that the nominating committee has selected a very long-lasting player from the field: someone who has earned notoriety for his work on the darker fringes of Mopologetics. It seems that, despite his long-time status as something of a second-order "button man," and despite his slimy and unflattering nickname, this was a person who was always had his eyes on greater and more ambitious horizons. This year, my friends, the Award unequivocally goes to Allen "The Slug" Wyatt, whose preternatural candor propelled him to the top of the nominating committee's list. Indeed, it was his revelation that he--not Daniel Peterson nor any other actually credentialed Mopologist--is the true editor of Mormon Interpreter, that earned him this year's Scepter.

This means, I suppose, that one can either blame or congratulate him for whatever it is that MI has published. In any case, I hope you'll join me in congratulating Editor Wyatt! Raise a glass! Help yourself to a pound or two of M&Ms! Three cheers! Hip hip hooray! Brother Wyatt, whose academic degrees go unnamed on the Mormon Interpreter website (a massive departure from the usual practice), joins a venerable pantheon of past winners of the Golden Scepter. If you have a moment, I encourage you to view the beautiful plaque, with names of past winners, that is posted in the atrium beside Dean Robbers's office.

CONGRATULATIONS, Mr. Wyatt! I hope you can appreciate the gravitas of this award, for few are the recipients thereof.

Congratulation Brother Allen Wyatt! This award couldn't have gone to a more deserving recipient. I hope you take the time to comment on the occasion!

Respectfully,

Dr. Cameron, NC for Me

Excellent choice, Dr. Scratch!

It sounds like Allen "The Slug" Wyatt is one of the unheralded few who are responsible for doing much of the grunt work most Mopologists feel is beneath them. And when I say "grunt work" I mean editing, research and writing.

If it wasn't for all the grunt work Allen "The Slug" Wyatt does for the Mopologists, DCP probably wouldn't have the time to travel or have the time to be a food and theater critic.

I also doubt that without The Slug, DCP would have the time to cut and paste (and plagarize) articles for the D-News and his blog.

Was there anything else that prompted this selection?

He certainly deserves this ghost award: under his ghost editorship, hundreds of articles have been produced over the years, and almost every Friday. A genuine ghost achievement!

Years ago my brother and I participated on a Mormon related board, the name of which escapes me now. At the time, Allen Wyatt was purchasing dozens of domain names on behalf of the "MoreGoodFoundation" in anticipation of furthering the on-line presence of the Church. As a joke, my brother posted that he was going to purchase the domain "AllenWyattSucks.com". Within a day or so of my brother's post, I researched the name and discovered the domain "AllenWyattSucks.com" had been purchased by the "MoreGoodFoundation".

It appears the ownership has now lapsed.

I wonder how many years Allen paid to keep the domain "AllenWyattSucks" in friendly hands.

Where are you getting this nickname from?
