The Resurrection of John Larsen
Announcing the New Sunstone Podcast Hosted by John Larsen
SALT LAKE CITY, UT — In January 2019, the Sunstone Education Foundation will launch a new weekly podcast hosted by John Larsen. Previously the host of Mormon Expression, Larsen is a veteran podcaster who served as executive director for the Whitefields Foundation.
Following Sunstone’s motto, “More than one way to Mormon,” the podcast will cast a wide net, engaging with thought leaders throughout the Mormon tradition regardless of their affiliation or faith status. It will focus on ideas and movements that shape Mormon theology, history, and culture.
“Both Sunstone and I believe that the Mormon tradition draws its richness from its many flavors and iterations—from the L.D.S. Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, to the fundamentalist colonies in Mexico, to the ex-Mormons living throughout the world—and, of course, everyone in between,” says Larsen.
“During polarized times like these, it is especially important that there is a forum for addressing the issues members of the Mormon community are most concerned about. Sunstone feels that John’s reputation for hard-hitting, intelligent, and fair commentary will help frame that conversation we all need to be having, and even kick it up a notch or two,” said Bill McGee, chair of Sunstone’s board of trustees.
“This is a match made in the Celestial Kingdom—though probably in one of its lower levels,” quips Lindsay Hansen Park, executive director of Sunstone. “Both Sunstone and John share a commitment to rigorous inquiry, constructive dialogue, and expanding what it means to be Mormon.”

Just when I was getting tired of bitching about Mormonism ..... I used to eat up Mormon expression every week when it was on. Here is hoping Mr. Larson continues putting out excellent podcasts.

That is a really odd choice, I have to say.

An exmormon reddit post is requesting 3-4 minute audio of people qualified and interested in participating as panelists:
https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comme ... _be_heard/
It is time for you to be heard!
Sunstone is launching a new weekly podcast to discuss Mormon related topics. We are seeking to establish a monthly panel to chat about whatever is current in the Mormon/ex-Mormon world (think Real Time with Bill Mahr). We are looking to create a pool of panelists who can come on and share their own views and opinions.
Qualifications:
You need to have the following qualifications
Be opinionated.
Be able to articulate those opinions and be challenged without losing your cool.
Be respectful of other opinions
Be willing to "jump in" and talk over other people.
Don't be dumb. Be well informed and well read.
Have a good voice.
Be willing to learn
Be excited about doing this.
Be able to record in studio in SLC.
We kind of have the white male demographic covered. While we encourage everyone who is interested to apply, preference will be given to alternative voices. In particular this means we will give preference to people of color, women, conservatives and believers.
The application process:
You will send a 3-4 minute mp3 to johnlarsen@sunstone.org. If it is shorter than 3 or longer than 4 or in any other format it won't be considered.
From these submissions, we will select individuals to come in and do a live audition.
If you pass the audition, we will try you out and see how you do.
This can be so much fun, but it is work and commitment. Any and all questions can be directed to me at johnlarsen@sunstone.org.
Good luck! I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: The Resurrection of John Larsen
Although I have mostly retired from Mormonism-related podcasts, other than the excellent Radio Free Mormon episodes, this is interesting. I very much enjoyed the old Mormon Expression of John Larsen.
Although I wonder what enticed him back, after retiring from Mormonism-related podcasting.
