Midgley just cracks me up sometimes. What exactly goes on in his mind? Yesterday:
Midgley wrote:Of course the Newsroom mentioned Professor Peterson, just as they should. And I am certain that it will soon be clear that the Brethren were blindsided by the purge and the subsequent "new direction." And are now indicating that they want that reversed. I don't think that Dan will say too much about it just now, however.
As Doctor Scratch revealed long ago, there are factions among the Brethren, and it's by no means surprising if one faction would like to change things. And since the restructuring with Nelson it may be that the pro-FARMS faction (assuming there is one) has some power now to make it happen.
None of that would surprise me.
The biggest problem for Psychon M's speculation is that, as Doctor Scratch has taught, Mopologetics is dead. WHO is going to make up the FARMS RE MI?
Psychon P is approaching 70. Psychon H is retired. I guess it could be one dude running it as a figure head with a bunch of random contributors from the Interpreter who aren't BYU faculty. I'm just not seeing much in the way of a sustainable organization.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.
LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

My guess is that such a reversal, were it to happen, would be symbolic and not much else. But the symbolic value would be more than enough to satisfy those who loved classic FARMS and deride Mormon Studies.
Of course, the frustration of Mormon Studies would in itself be worthwhile to such people.

"We need to get back to tearing people down who dare question us and that includes that evil world of academia. Let's put ol' Midgely, Peterson and company back in charge of the MI. Those taffy pulling, patty-caking folks who keep putting out soft pedaled, artistic middle road garbage need to go. It's almost like members are starting feel like there's room for secular learning, the very stuff Our dear Brother Oaks condemned for us clarifying again our opposition to gay people, if we can call them people. Listening to our whiney members about personal attacks was our biggest mistake. brethren, lets pray and fast on this stuff and then get ready to put our defenders back in their rightful place."

Sounds about right.
Well done.

Has the Hell Portal in Newark, New Jersey started to glow red? Have flocks of ravens landed on the telephone pole wires of Orem? Can Al Jolson songs be heard in the Bohemian Grove? Is the Trump skin bronzing sprayer releasing clouds of orange mist? Is the Palmyra Pageant being shut down? Is the Church no longer Mormon? Are rumbles coming from Mount Doom?
He must have seen something to believe this reversal is imminent.
