This is the PR guy for the MI for Christ sakes! Who had nothing to do with Peterson et al ouster. And they wonder why the MI decided to take a new approach. If they were really interested in getting back in control of the MI you would think they would realize this sort of nonsense isn't going to help their cause.

Maybe Lou is just throwing caution to the wind because he knows he isn't going to get what he really wants anyway.

Maybe so. His statements are so blatantly incorrect at times. For example, this:
One should also keep in mind that the Brethren have recently endorsed Book of Mormon Central, the Interpreter Foundation, and FAIR as independent agencies from whom Latter-day Saints can assess solid scholarship on their faith. Their remarks about the Maxwell Institute were much more guarded, however.

??? From lds.org, here's the non-endorsing endorsement he must be referring to:
The following links lead to gospel study resources and other information that can provide insights to doctrinal, historical, and social questions....

Note:
....Double-starred websites (**) are maintained by a third party that is unaffiliated with the Church. By linking to this content The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not endorse the content of these sites....

[And finally, under the heading]

Additional Resources for Answering Doctrinal, Historical, and Social Questions....

Book of Mormon Central**....

FairMormon**....

The Interpreter Foundation**....

The Church does not officially endorse those outlets because they do not have the time, resources, ability, or desire to correlate it all. They unofficially endorse it by linking to it, which is about as much as anyone could expect. They unofficially endorse these things because they know the key actors are ironclad loyal.

Along with the obvious fact taht the brethren themselves distinctly lack the intellectual capability to keep up with the actual knowledge of historical, archaeological, philosophical and religious studies have shown what a farce their "historical" scriptures are.
