Did you know they serve lobster in the SLC temple? For only 10% of your income you can participate in a mysterious snoozefest and afterward dine on lobster, which is provided at a tidy profit of course.

Lower Lights
ABOUT US
Lower Lights is a nonprofit organization 501(c)(3) and community that supports human awakening coupled with passionate engagement in the world. We approach the journey of becoming through ancient and modern teachings including mindfulness, Western developmental psychology and the world’s wisdom traditions.
Sounds pretty apostate to me. No Mention of Mormon Bastard jebus, Rusty the Tin Man and the Boys or even Sheri "Lick'en Wendy" Dew.

Seems right a Mormon mentalgymnast pushing a Mormon's money making scheme. Maybe mentalgymnast and the POS can start an MLM for Lower Lights

Buddhist tradition mixed with LDS theology and practice isn't for everyone I suppose. I'm probably not going to go out and become a practitioner any time soon. But to listen to his thoughts/ideas in regards to mindfulness/spirit/practice is eye opening. At least to me and I would suppose/hope for some others. It is for those folks that I began this thread. I am under no allusion to the fact that once a person has left Mormonism they are going to have a jaundiced view of anything having to do with or associated with Mormonism.
Even if in reality it's kind of cool.
I just finished the seventh episode while out moving my body around. Great stuff. I hope others decide to give the podcast a go. There is some other good stuff on Faith Matters worth listening to also in my opinion. Mind expanding stuff.
So if you want to stuff it, that's fine (I wanted to use the word 'stuff' one more time).
Regards,
MG

Gospel Meets Dharma: An exploration of
Mystical Christianity, Teachings from the Buddha, and Nondual Awareness
* This is an audio recording of an 8-week course. Each session includes recordings of a concise lecture, group discussion, meditation and transformative practice.
Friends,
Until I discovered Buddhism, meditation and transformative practice, Christianity made little sense to me. 20 years deep into my exploration of consciousness and the wisdom traditions, my love for Christianity has kindled from a spark into a terrestrial blaze.
Some of the deepest, most transformative teachings I’ve encountered have come not from the Romanized version of Christianity that has so dominated Western civilization, but from the gospels of early rogue outfits who followed the Way out into the desert and off into the Orient.
In what has become Lower Lights’ most popular offering, we use the Gospel of Thomas as a foundational resource. The Gospel of Thomas is a powerful, luminous text only recently discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt in 1945. Since then, these “hidden sayings” have slowly started to reshape the world’s understanding of Christianity’s original intent.
I hope you’ll join us for this journey into Christian Mysticism, Buddhist Awakening, and ultimately, the free and open Awareness that belongs to no tradition exclusively.

First of all, I would NEVER meditate when all GOOD Mormons know you Ponderize. Silly mentalgymnast meditating is for hippies, Ponderizing is for Mormons.
TOP DEFINITIONS
ponderize - The act of monetizing ones position in a church office. This revelation from God is going to make me rich if I can find a way to ponderize it.
ponderize - To memorize a concept while deliberately choosing not to contemplate its meaning. Kate was determined to ponderize her cult's leaders manifesto, fearing further study would destroy her faith.
ponderize - A portmanteau of the words pound and tenderize, meaning to pound vigorously while also tenderizing the area being pounded. A proper ponderization involves 80% pounding and 20% tenderizing. He ponderized the maid in the hay mow with the intensity of a man who's wife could return home at any minute yet with the care due her innocence and age.
ponderize - The act of pulverizing a vagina while in a pond. My girlfriend and I ponderized so hard last night.
ponderize - To ponder/memorize something. I ponderize a scripture every day.
Ponderize - A new word used in the Oct. 2015 general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Elder Devin Durrant, which immediately became a social media sensation. Ponderize appears to be a combination of the words "ponder" and "memorize." Ponderize describes the act of selecting a verse of scripture, and posting it in a place where you will see it often. Whenever you see the scripture you will think about its meaning and how it applies to life. After I ponderized the scripture “My father dwelt in a tent” (1 Nephi 2:15) I decided there is no way Joseph Smith could make that crap up... has to come from heaven.
Ponderize - A word that means to 80% ponder and 20% memorize a text, usually verses of scripture. Ponderizing new scripture each week can uplift and inspire the ponderizer. Most effective ponderization occurs over a 20 year period. When I ponderize I feel a greater desire to follow Jesus Christ and have an elevated place or my thoughts to go.

Hi Themis, it's been a while...like a six month hiatus on my end. Thanks for your input to the thread.
Yes, I'm sure that what you and one or two others have mentioned is true. As you listen to Thomas, however, you come to understand that coming back to the church was the LAST thing on his radar. There was a beckoning that occurred in a almost spiritual/mystical sense that brought him back even though it was quite uncomfortable for him for a while on first entering a chapel after twenty years or so.
I'd suggest you listen to the whole series to really get a flavor as to the wide breadth and depth of Mormonism and it's relationship to other world traditions of belief and thought/spirituality. As I told another poster, it's not for everyone. A certain sense of playfulness and open mindedness is required to listen without automatically shutting down. In times past as I've posted on this board I've lamented that there seems to be a certain 'rigidity' and/or black and white thinking present in some folks as they post. This podcast and the views expressed therein are not going to go well for them.
You however? You might find it interesting. After all, Buddhism in and of itself doesn't require God belief. You might find it interesting how Thomas McConkie has merged Buddhist thought and practice with Mormon orthodoxy.
Regards,
MG
