Jesus Christ is not coming back, you fool! You, Daniel Peterson will not live to see a second coming of Jesus Christ, I so prophesy! Neither will your children or your children's children. Nobody in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of any generation in the future will see a second coming of Jesus Christ. It's NEVER going to happen. It's a false prophecy. The Mormon church might as well drop the term "Latter-day" from it's holier-than-thou title because time itself will prove the church and it's prophecies false.

Ha ha ha hahaaaa!

Wow! Peter$on really holds himself in high regard. Peter$on’s name will be handed down to future generations? I can’t believe he really wrote that.

Well, now I know where Peter$on’s smug sense of self importance and arrogance come from. Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

Everybody Wang Chung, You sound surprised by these sentiments. I am a bit puzzled why.
The passage sounds like pretty standard Mormon belief to me. Of course I find the sentiment to be outside of what I believe myself, not being Mormon, so in that sense I find it unbelievable.

Huckleberry,

Maybe I grew up in a different era than Priestcraft Peter$on, but I can honestly say that I never once imagined future generations would remember my name or discuss my valiant deeds in hushed tones of respect and reverence.

I think there are certainly people in the Church who believe this (like Priestcraft) who have such enormous egos and narcissistic personalities, but I hope these people are few and far between.

I would bet you anything Priestcraft Peter$on is a huge fan of Saturday’s Warrior.

Right.

Christ will come off his cloud and come down and burn all the gays and wipe out the atheists that have blasphemed his holy institution.

I'm soooo scared! Mormon Jesus's threats don't scare me at all. I'm giving him the finger!

 I failed indeed, but then again, I very much doubt anyone ever thought that I was a good girl to begin with:

No; it was only a calm, sweet assurance that she was a good girl..."

Lemmie is there any extenuating context in the book for this repellent quote?

Oh yes. Not only are all women stupid, but they are also divided into two groups: stupid and foolish and frivolous; and stupid and simple and sweet.

Everybody Wang Chung,

Your experience would be different than mine and you may be shedding light on that difference. I am a few years older than Mr Peterson so all my experience in the church would be in his growing up period. You point out an individualist note in the quote which may be a bit unusual. I remember lots of talks about how special this generation is , specially chosen to be able to further this great time culminating human history. (so don't fail or mess it up). Perhaps in the quote the volume is turned up a bit over normal.

Calling Professor Lemmie!

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it looks like Peter$on's testimony was plagarized, word for word from Chapter 44 of the study manual for The Teachings of Joseph Smith. Was Peter$on really this sloppy or lazy? Does Peter$on not have a testimony of his own? I truly hope I'm mistaken and that Peter$on meant to quote Joseph Smith instead of plagarizing him word for word.

Peter$on's Testimony wrote:The building up of Zion is a cause that has interested the people of God in every age; it is a theme upon which prophets, priests and kings have dwelt with peculiar delight; they have looked forward with joyful anticipation to the day in which we live; and fired with heavenly and joyful anticipations they have sung and written and prophesied of this our day; but they died without the sight; we are the favored people that God has made choice of to bring about the Latter-day glory; it is left for us to see, participate in and help to roll forward the Latter-day glory. . . . And whilst we are thus united in the one common cause, to roll forth the kingdom of God, the heavenly Priesthood are not idle spectators, the Spirit of God will be showered down from above, and it will dwell in our midst. The blessings of the Most High will rest upon our tabernacles, and our name will be handed down to future ages; our children will rise up and call us blessed; and generations yet unborn will dwell with peculiar delight upon the scenes that we have passed through, the privations that we have endured; the untiring zeal that we have manifested; the all but insurmountable difficulties that we have overcome in laying the foundation of a work that brought about the glory and blessing which they will realize; a work that God and angels have contemplated with delight for generations past; that fired the souls of the ancient patriarchs and prophets; a work that is destined to bring about the destruction of the powers of darkness, the renovation of the earth, the glory of God, and the salvation of the human family.

From Chapter 44 of the study manual for the Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith:

Chapter 44 of the Teachings of Joseph Smith wrote:“The building up of Zion is a cause that has interested the people of God in every age; it is a theme upon which prophets, priests and kings have dwelt with peculiar delight; they have looked forward with joyful anticipation to the day in which we live; and fired with heavenly and joyful anticipations they have sung and written and prophesied of this our day; but they died without the sight; we are the favored people that God has made choice of to bring about the Latter-day glory; it is left for us to see, participate in and help to roll forward the Latter-day glory...and whilst we are thus united in the one common cause, to roll forth the kingdom of God, the heavenly Priesthood are not idle spectators, the Spirit of God will be showered down from above, and it will dwell in our midst.... I did check, while DCP did attribute the quote, at least as far back as the internet wayback copies his chapter in "expressions of faith" go (earliest I can find is april 2016) his lead-in is astonishingly arrogant:
DCP wrote:But I find the gospel wholly fulfilling in the here and now, and I do not dream only of the world to come, glorious as I believe that will be. And the dream of Zion, of which I have had some foretaste, ignites my imagination:
"..."

As for copies prior to that date, I give no guarantee. Peterson doesn't have a good track record with plagiarism, so I would have to see the 1996 book before giving a final answer.

Here's a question for you--a theological question. If we accept that Added Upon is a legitimate depiction of the Mopologists' concept of heaven (and I think we should; I don't know if you caught it, but there was one person on the Amazon reviewer's comments who said that it was none other than Daniel Peterson himself who recommended this book), what does it tell us about their beliefs? One of the disturbing elements about their theology is the apparent condescension they feel towards anyone who doesn't subscribe to their version of the gospel. And if we go by the depiction in Added Upon, then the lower kingdoms will be, just as the man indicates, full of a "torment" that is "as a lake of fire and brimstone." So, I actually have two questions. First, is this only for those in the Telestial Kingdom? I don't think that it is. The "sinning" that the man committed appears to have been done out of sorrow... So, like, drinking, maybe? Maybe he fornicated? Masturbated? Whatever the case may be, based on the text, it doesn't seem like he did anything that would relegate him to the Telestial. (Right--is that your understanding as well--i.e., that the Telestial is really only for the worst of the worst, like Hitler, and murderers, and John Wayne Gacy, and people like that?) If this is true, then, once again, you really have to read their comments on folks like Carl Sagan, Hitchens, etc.--the people about whom they (apparently) disingenuously say: "I bet he's very surprised right about now!" Yes, in more ways than one!

My second question, then, is this: Do the Mopologists believe that atheists like Sagan and others will suffer a fate similar to the man depicted in this story?
