Hey, EVOLUTIONARIES! Get over this:

Post by _Nightlion »

I would not know where life divides the sexes to male and female. But at least from that point on evolution is statistically impossible. If a mutation takes place in one higher form of life there is no possible chance that there would be the same mutation of the opposite sex anywhere nearby. The mutation would die before it could multiply.

NL,

Careful my friend, your lack of understanding regarding genetics in sexual reproduction is on full display here.

If a beneficial germ cell mutation occurs in a higher animal, then that mutation, even if carried by only one of the parents, has a nominal 50/50 chance of being expressed in the offspring.

Here is an example of the effect in human populations. The Black Plague in the 1300s killed well over 30% of the population of Europe. Recent research has shown that the survivors, as a group (that would likely include most of us), tended to carry heritable genetics that conferred enhanced immunity against the plague bacterium, Yersinia pestis.

Again, if an individual who carried one or more of the genes that helped confer this protection mated with an individual who did not, the chances of their offspring expressing the protective gene (or genes) would be approximately 50%.

Let's say that this couple had two kids, one of whom inherited and expressed the protective genes, and one who did not. The one who did not would be more likely to die from bubonic plague if exposed, and would therefore be less likely to reproduce.

The child that did inherit and express the protective genes would be more likely to successfully reproduce, thus sending this protective gene set into the next generation - in which generation there would be fewer people who did not carry the protective genes.

And, in fact, that's exactly what happened. The population that survived and evolved after the plague (again - that would likely include most of us) not only lived longer than their predecessors because of enhanced immunity, the surviving population also became taller on average - another characteristic conferred by the immunity enhancing set of genes.

There are no doubt thousands of such examples in "higher" animals. This is basic high school biology, NL. As stated here before, you would probably be much less confused about life if you tried reading a little more science and a little less religion.

Coyotes, wolves, German shepherds or poodles can each combine and make puppies. There are wide variations of genes and mutations which can combine in the population of breeding creatures. The evolution of canines is visible before us.

The real question is how did the raccoon manage to mate with the first whale that had popped out amongst a litter of raccoon pups, grown to adulthood and was signaling for a mate in order to breed more whales? Answer THAT, evolutionaries!

What? Taken to the woodshed again!

Subtle little blips of genetic mutations can pass on. We are talking about the huge jumps from what youse guys image must have been lightning struck Primordial Soup to human nuts. That be the god of the gaps folks. At your rate of evolution it would by now be just beginning to crawl out, if its habitat survived so long.

OH, and what'shisnuts admitted intelligent design of late.
