A part of me sincerely hopes there is no afterlife just so gemli can get his/her long-desired wish of slipping into the oblivion of non-existence at death after an intrinsically pointless life.

I mean, I would hate for him/her to end up in a real, actual afterlife and be so deeply hitter and disappointed at the outcome. Just seems a bit gratuitous, you know?

don't forget that Smooth and DCP are victims, just like the rest of us, of a manipulating cult. They just chose to take a different pill than us after being exposed to the truth. Now they have to fight to protect the matrix at all costs.

Smoot is intrinsically wrong in imagining that anyone's life is intrinsically pointless. I suspect he knows better, but he wants the admiration of Lou Almidgley and Elohim Peterson so he can join their heavenly chorus when they are crowned with 1,000 crowns of apologetic Deityhood in the next life to enable them to carry on their Elohim-given mission of converting the entire universe and all life forms may receive their second anointings and live forever in the bliss of pointing out all forms of intrinsic pointless lives of the possible billions of different life forms and their wasted existence...... After all, when you are better than all other life forms, one of the rewards is having the ability and free will to point out their intrinsically worthless lives, and how blessed you are to have a second anointing intrinsically valuable life in having the ability and freedom and love to point out how intrinsically worthless all other life is! Now that's worth living for!

That was a spiteful comment by Smoot. And notice that it was the first comment in the thread, and that Gemli hadn't responded yet. The slanderous narrative is that the blog author happily posts on topics of his personal faith and unawares, the godless atheists decent to mock and scorn. This is proof positive that the comments on the blog and the opening posts themselves are either a) implicit attacks on non-believers the author doesn't like or b) honey pots to lure unbelievers and get a fight started in comments.

Also notice that Midgley immediately up-voted Smoot's comment. Gemli's response got 5 up-votes, including endorsements from other academics with real Phds. That must really pour salt in Mr. Midgley wounds.

And if one did find themself a son of perdition then 'The potters clay' concept kicks in and they are disintegrated into the basic universe pools of matter and intelligence (the star dust one is made up of is returned to the universe that provided it in the first place)

Yes, something has changed. Didn't you hear about the new revelation? Now instead of the merely sissy "Love one another," we have assurance from the gods that "To spite one another is divine, and the mandate of heaven is to point out how worthless life is, unless you are a second anointed holy Mormon of the Lord, and then things will be all right." Love has officially been outdated with anti- Mr. Rogers attitude of descend to the depths and gall of bitterness for therein is only true joy to be found. All of God's children are not worth it after all. Those who are temple celestial saved no more have obligations to love, but pour scorn, hate, and contempt on all the other of God's miserable and largely irrelevant creations be they plant, rock or animal.

Easy. And I don't know why the people around here are so squeamish about saying it. Stephen Smoot is a homosexual. He is a gay Mormon man. I'm sorry, he is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who also suffers excruciatingly from Same Sex Attraction.

He hurts, so he tries to hurt others. Over and over.

He is angry, self loathing, emotionally and sexually frustrated. Do the math. And then follow that math to the conclusion of his life and consider the sad irony of his comment. What will brother Smoot look back on? He's clearly a brilliant man with a lot of potential. And what did he devote himself to? Egyptology? Tapir ranching and apologetics? Very productive uses of time. Where oh where would humanity be without them. Even a fat, ugly ass like DCP has a relationship that includes, presumably, some level of sexual and emotional fulfillment. Some core biological needs are being met there. I hope. Maybe not, which is why he's so out of shape. (Hey DCP, show your wife some love and get on a treadmill) Smoot, on the other hand, is denied the most basic of human needs. But, important to this discussion, it's also something that he denies himself. Where does he get the strength for that, how does he maintain that discipline? Intellectualization. Rage. Verbal attacks. He busies himself kind of like his brother, Satan, by working as hard as he can to make others miserable like unto himself.
