If you have not heard of Bishop Murdock being arrested in a store trying to video tape, using his cell phone, a woman undressing, then I suggest you watch that episode on Mormon Stories. It is on YouTube too. Not gonna repeat it here. John Dehlin dissects the story like a good Medical Examiner. If you have not seen that video, I encourage you to do so.
My thoughts:
"Womanizers" exist in all churches and religions, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. No more. No less. Islam deals with this by basically never keeping a female alone from the time she is born until her wedding night (which, in some countries, is as early as 8 years old). Most women don't work outside in the home in Muslim countries. They take care of children. If the mother must be somewhere, the females are handed off to aunts, female friends. Females don't spent one freaking micro-second alone with any male, except perhaps their brother. Muslim society separates males and females, for the exact purpose is to keep females and Womanizers away from each other.
Mormonism does not do so as well. Having been roommates with a few Mormon Womanizers, I know the following:
*They are very successful with Mormon women!
*Mormon women do NOT have the Spirit of Discernment to "discern" good men from bad. They can only discern rich men from poor, handsome men from ugly, skinny men from fat. They cannot discern a good moral man from an immoral one. I've met too many divorced Mormon women with horror stories of the actions of their ex-husbands, over the last forty years.
*Joseph Smith was a Womanizer, and a very successful one, only have perhaps a half dozen females reject him. Joseph Smith was tarred and feathered in Ohio, not because he claimed to be a Prophet, but because he was messing with the teen girls in the village. Like I said, he was almost always successful.
Former Bishop Murdock is a sex addict. Ok, well, many of us have addictions. Having a sex addiction does not mean you're a Womanizer. You may try to fulfill that addiction with pornography, instead of real living women. Womanizers are simply sex addicts who try to fulfill that addiction with real women, not paper dolls (or inflated dolls). An addict should not be condemned for being a addict. Our genes determine if we are addicts or not.
However, addicts don't have to be hypocrites. If one knows they have a sex addiction, and are disobeying the Law of Chastity, and doing inappropriate things (and one knows they are inappropriate) one should not be a bishop, even if "called by the Lord" to do so. One should resign from being a bishop or high councilor. Simple as that. Leading a double-life is hypocrisy. Jesus used harsh words for hypocrites. We all sin, but we all don't lead a double-life. I realize that Mormons who lead double-lives will disagree, and insist that we "all" lead double-lives. But, we don't.
The cause of sex addiction, may be genetic, or having been molested as a child, or both. Murdock may have been molested by a female babysitter. Rare, but it happens. He may have been molested by a female teacher. Again, compared with male molestors, it is rare, but it happens.
Why was Murdock made a bishop and high councilman in his Stake? I get the sneaky suspicion that his Stake President was trying to "reform" him. I know a lot of "BAD ELDERS" in my mission, who were sent on missions to "reform" them. Never worked. They were just BAD Elders. Some of them were pop-smokers. Others Womanizers (one screwed my only convert--a single female). Bullies. Fighters. Pathological liars. Sociopaths. Psychopaths. Thieves. Bad Elders. So many were from Utah that we used to say: "Oh yeah, Elder so-and-so screwed another female investigator!" And you'd hear, "Oh, well, he's a Utah Elder". So you said, "Oh, ok, that explains it".
Back in "The Day" if you had a no good son, a thief, liar, con-man, Womanizer, etc., you sent him on a mission to "reform" him. Missions were like Reform Schools. Only, they never worked. I had a companion (from Bluffdale Utah) who beat up (bloody) another Elder from Thailand because the Thailand Elder "bitched" too much. Beat him bloody. Put him in the hospital. Our Mission President "counseled" (commanded) the Thai Elder to "forgive him" and not press charges. The Elder who beat up the Thai Elder was not even removed from the apartment! Not moved to another mission. Not exed. NOTHING happened to him. He later had sex with my own 'convert': a single female. He then was excommunicated, and sent home on a Greyhound bus. I waved at him goodbye. Two weeks later, I got a copy of the wedding invitation, between him an a gorgeous blonde Utah girl. They married in the cultural hall of their Ward. Her bishop married them.
I would bet you a year's salary, that Murdock's Stake President thought this would "reform" him: make him a good boy. Bishop as "Reform School". High Council as Reform School. Missions as Reform School. I heard Murdock is personal friends with Rusty Nelson and his family. Hmmmmm... Makes one wonder.
Having an addiction does not make one a bad guy. However, in my view, leading a double-life does. When is the Church ever gonna learn:
*Don't use missions as Reform Schools.
*Don't use the Bishopric or High Council as Reform Schools.
*Don't use the COB (i.e. full-time Church employment) as a Reform School.
*Treat the friends and family of Church leaders (i.e. Mormon Royalty) the same as rank-and-file members. If they mess up, don't "hide" it. Excommunicate them. If that does not work, give them a Kirton-McConkie letter, and tell them: "Don't let the door hit you on the way out".
But...the Church will never learn. Blood is thicker than water.

In my experience, this is far from accurate.
