It's unbelievable that an educated person can preach such binary and incorrect thinking in the promotion of a supposedly all knowing all powerful supernatural deity who is meant to be behind the planning and creation of all that we know as "existence".

Mr Oaks just said that there's no place in God's plan for 1% of humanity right out of the gate (from birth). Intersex isn't a choice, it's a fact of creation. Maybe God just loses the 1% in His rounding up. Given the emotional stress behind the topics of sexuality and gender identity, and the inherent dangers of ostracising young people going through periods of processing their sexuality and gender identity, the talk by Mr Oaks is both negligent and without care or compassion. The Church would do well to disavow this talk and retract it, quickly, before there's real world implications.

I think that Oaks/LDS Inc is drawing this line in the sand as part of their misogynistic priesthood. Where the genders get blurred, even in a small percentage of births, that undercuts the only-males-get-the-priesthood approach. Transsexuals? Can a woman have a sex change operation to get a penis and the next stop is the bishop/stake president to get the priesthood? What about a transgender, a woman that identifies as a man and is confirmed to be more male than female in all aspects except plumbing? This confuses the priesthood limitation along gender lines. To keep their all-male power, got to have clear cut lines: plumbing at birth.

As to hermaphrodites that have dual plumbing, or nondescript plumbing, does the doctor get to decide what God made confusingly?

Hypothetically, if we had DNA testing on church members, there would be a lot of surprises on who would be eligible for priesthood.

Yes, a small number, but being at least one it is enough to contradiction the absolute claim. The fact that Oaks' needs a number of humans to NOT exist to preserve his argument should be a clue to reasonable and compassionate people.
