Joseph Smith, Nancy Rigdon, and the Happiness Letter

Simply the most staggering podcast I have ***ever*** heard. Very, VERY well done for accurate history of Joseph Smith and polygamy. Unfortunately for the church, it was founded and maintained and advanced by a complete sexual predator of girls, young girls. He manipulated everyone around him, and even the top leadership were ALL in on the gig. Breathtaking historical context, background and analysis. We can officially, based on evidence from THE JOSEPH SMITH PAPERS which The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints itself has published, we can officially say Joseph Smith was a prophet, seer, and revelator, and sexual predator. The historical evidence for this is stunningly overwhelming. I am staggered out of my gourd. I can never see Joseph Smith or anyone in early Mormonism the same again. Willard Richards, William Smith Joseph's brother, Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, they were all a part of the most secretive immoral ring, pretending it was all God saying so, yet lying to everyone to manipulate, get husbands out of towns on missions, and then pounce on their prey, and they were sharing husbands and wives, allowing women to move up the ladder to a higher ordained husband without divorce, having sex outside marriage which was perfectly fine, etc., all the while giving a public figure of stalwart, priesthood honoring, Godly revelation receiving gentlemen. I am simply blown away. Truly horrifying. I've never seen it in such bright light like this before. There was no revelations, there was no priesthood, there was no justice, it is unbelievably utterly and totally a con. Good grief this is the seal deal. This podcast absolutely is a MUST to listen to.

Because of this podcast, one can now see Joseph Smith all over the D&C instead of a "living Jesus" speaking. This entire enterprise has been a con. Yes I know its been said before, but I have been trying to take the moral high ground and assume there was something... anything... that helped it out, but Joseph Smith so blatantly manipulating using anything and everything about God in as immoral a way as I have ever seen. And if there actually is God, apparently none of this matters to it, so, there we go.

It is all just manipulation based on gigantic ego, just to get laid with girls. I mean this is overwhelming. Amen to the priesthood of that man. Joseph hoisted by his own petard. And the real hero is Nancy Rigdon. I loved how the podcasters and researchers said she was a badass. She was! Her example is going to be mine even stronger. She stood her ground, stood up and called the Prophet out and directly challenged him, and he had to back down and admit the truth. That woman deserves more accolades.

Just went through this whole podcast. It is so revealing on many levels of the sort of character Joseph Smith had...which is none. This had a perspective from many angles and I am impressed with much hope that Mormons today have a better understanding.

Thanks for the link.

Right? I think you have hit on something important here. There really was a lot more to Joseph Smith, but it's not on the spiritually enlightening end as the leaders say, and why they whitewash the history, but in the other direction. I'm still "Reel"ing from it (thanks Bill, this one is a real service to your fellowman!!!)

Kerry, have you seen this series of videos? If so, are they any good? I can't remember if they have been discussed here.

I dunno, I will take a look and get back with ya....

I just went over there. Yeah Cwald was recommending them here a while back. I listened to a couple of their podcasts. They're OK.... different than the podcast on the Happiness Letter. They appear to me to be laughing at more than analyzing things.

Last podcast on the left is a really good pod show with 350ish episodes. These guys are super talented and entertaining, but it's not for everyone though. It's very crude and loud and graphic...couple of comedians/amateur historians covering topics like cults, aliens, serial killers, conspiracy theories, satanism, magic etc.

The 6 part Mormonism series was really good and I highly recommend it. It covers early church history and the Smith family right hand path magic upbringing, you know crap like the seer stones and money digging and other stuff the Smith's were into. Then it goes through Joseph Smith years, a whole episode on Brigham Young and the Utah War and Mountain Meadow, and then part six covers the FLDS, Warren Jeffs and the Lafferty murders.
