Is it possible Joseph Smith did have a sexual relationship with Helen Mar?
Critics generally do not reveal that their sources have concluded that Helen's marriage to Joseph Smith was unconsummated, preferring instead to point out that mere fact of the marriage of a 14-year-old girl to a 37-year-old man ought to be evidence enough to imply sexual relations and "pedophilia." For example, George D. Smith quotes Compton without disclosing his view,[24] cites Compton, but ignores that Compton argues that " there is absolutely no evidence that there was any sexuality in the marriage, and I suggest that, following later practice in Utah, there may have been no sexuality. All the evidence points to this marriage as a primarily dynastic marriage.” [25] and Stanley Kimball without disclosing that he believed the marriage to be "unconsummated." [26]
You’re a degenerate who believes it’s ok to marry other men’s wives.

Hugh Nibley claimed he bumped into Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Gertrude Stein, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Romanoff. Dishonesty is baked into Mormonism.

Did you complete your assignment?

I think I’m putting MG back on ignore. I can’t see the upside corresponding with someone ok with bigamy, child brides, and lying about it. He’s a troll and a piece of crap - if I knew him in real life I’d persona non grata him.

That might be a wise decision. You haven’t really contributed much anyway. And it takes time to at least recognize your posts and respond. So yeah, adios.
Apparently not. At least in principle. In practice? That’s between Joseph and God. I’m not going to be the judge, jury, and executioner.
I’ll leave that to your trustworthy and unbiased expertise.
As for me, I don’t know all the facts.

There you have it. MG doesn’t think marrying other men’s wives was wrong.
This is who he is. This is his ethos formed within the total system of Mormonism. Think about how MG would act if given the same choice within Mormonism’s system. Think about how Mormon men acted when presented with similar choices, whether it was bigamy, polyandry, child brides, or lying about their behavior. This was all done and is done within the Mormon construct.
This system is totally incompatible with Christianity, with the rule of law, and basic decency. That is Mormonism.

That’s the real lesson here, I think. The effort to blindly support Mormonism inevitably leads into these very dark corners of opinion and behavior. It’s a rough place to inhabit, it seems, because apologists who attempt to do so really don’t come off well, as we see here regularly.
More and more, the Community of Christ is coming across as the religion that preserves the good of Mormon life, while jettisoning these dark and ugly corners.
According to your quote, "there may have been no sexuality." It is just speculation. The guy doesn't know for sure.
What I want to know is your opinion. Is it possible Joseph Smith did have a sexual relationship with Helen Mar and/or Nancy Winchester? A simple yes or no. I am not saying Joseph Smith did it, all I want is a straight answer from you.

I highlighted perspective/opinion, may I say, judgmental words so as to point out that you have your point of view and frame of reference. And that’s fine. It’s wonderful to live in a nation where we can express ourselves freely. I happen to disagree with your expressed view and your choice of words, but of course, that should come as no surprise.
The lesson I’ve come away with thus far is that very smart people can have a very restrictive and limited field of vision. This becomes more and more clear to me. But nonetheless, I think it’s good to have the dialogue. I learn things. Others might too.
Still waiting for your perspective/opinion. Is it possible Joseph Smith did have a sexual relationship with Helen Mar and/or Nancy Winchester? Did Brigham Young have sexual relationships with Clarissa Caroline Decker?
