Brad Wilcox's fireside for youth quotes

This is what a real Mormon looks like.

That is a very bad one…..white supremacy, and white fragility are all over that. It is funny how he is trying to defend Brigham Young as well. Similar to how DCP was trying a few weeks ago.Marcus wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 2:40 amReading the text is bad enough, but just listen to this clip of Wilcox talking about "the blacks" and "the whites"...

Absolutely. His tone of voice, where he pauses, what he emphasizes... it is horrifying.Dr LOD wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 4:32 amThat is a very bad one…..white supremacy, and white fragility are all over that. Brad Wilcox wrote:My dear friends, I made a serious mistake last night, and I am truly sorry. The illustration I attempted to use about the timing of the revelation on the priesthood for Black members was wrong. I've reviewed what I said and I recognize that what I hoped to express about trusting God's timing did NOT come through as I intended. To those I offended, especially my dear Black friends, I offer my sincere apologies, and ask for your forgiveness. I am committed to do better.

Mormonism is well out on the ritualistic end of the religious spectrum. Many of its rituals seem in themselves to be liturgically amateur, but they are performed in grim earnest, because the Mormon understanding of what its rituals do and how they work seems to be on the primitive, magical end of that spectrum, too.
So, sure, every religion has its rituals and formulas. The letter of the law gives no life, but the spirit does need a vessel. Claiming that Mormonism is great because it is fully licensed, though, is actually an appalling admission.

Why are people leaving the church?
Look no further than speeches like the one above by Brad Wilcox.
He is a victory for Satan.

pfff. You losers call yourselves anti-Mormons. Brad Wilcox is playing the long game. From starting out by inspiring me at EFY 30 years ago to becoming a Colbert Report-esque parody of an apologist. This guy had a plan to break a thousand shelves, and executed it perfectly over the long run.
Well played Brad, well played.
Well played Brad, well played.

I'm going to five Brad some praise. I think this is about the best that can be done in defending the church and trying to keep members inside. The problem for the LDS church is that persons with Wilcox's speaking abilities are in REAL short supply. When the primary qualifications for leadership are ability to endure long stretches of boredom and being well and truly church broke, you are not going to foster any abilities at speaking.
Did Wilcox answer any actual questions? No. It was a very skillful use of Millet's dictum, "Don't answer the question they asked, answer the question they should have asked." But he did it with skill and charisma. Was the talk riddled with non-sequiturs and contradictions? Yes, but the audience had a good time and I'm guessing most didn't see them. That takes skill, keeping the audience entertained enough that aren't going to dig deeper but leave the talk satisfied that a good time was had by all.
