Memories
Hey,
Long time no see. For some reason I just thought of this place randomly and was surprised that my old bookmark didn't work. Well I found it after some searching.
For all I know there is no one here from when I was a regular but anyway I just dropped by to take a peek and I had to register again as Tarski* (formerly Tarski)
I wish I had something interesting or clever to post but I haven't kept up with mopology or Mormonism in general. I guess it has stopped being a thing for me. Has anything exciting or outrageous happened in Mormonism over the last 7 years or so? How long since I posted here anyway?
Cheers

Hi Tarski. I saw earlier that you had registered. I remember you from before. Welcome back. I haven't kept up either and am sort of lost here now.

The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession... The LORD set his love on you and chose you... The LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery. Deut. 7

There still is, I often think about the conversations we had about number theory and Peano's axioms. Opened up a whole new world in the philosophy of math and metalogic for me!

I don't post very much, but I casually browse the board still. You are on the list of posters I fondly remember and still think about from time to time. You have credit in my head for making me finally understand what "infinity" actually means, and to more-or-less understand some of Cantor's basic ideas about sets and how some infinities are "bigger" than others.
What is the most exciting or outrageous happening in Mormonism over the last 7 years? To me, that question is easy. It's the "Letter to an IRS Director." About 2 years ago, David Nielsen was a fund manager at "Ensign Peak Advisors" (EPA), a division of the Church. He filed a complaint to the IRS that EPA is cheating on its taxes because it doesn't actually qualify as a 501(c)(3) public charity since it doesn't actually spend a penny on charitable or religious things, ever. All it does is hoard money. Using whistleblower protection by the IRS, he was able to defy the Church's non-disclosure agreement and publicly release the details of the Church's financial assets.
There is a hypothetical possibility that the IRS will agree with him and say EPA owes tens of billions in back taxes. If that were to happen, Nielsen would get a finders fee for reporting the tax violator, which could be over $5 billion.
Regardless, we now know some details about the Church's hoard of commercial investments. It has enough investment income to operate into perpetuity with only its investment income.

A wild Tarski appears.
It uses nostalgia.
It is super effective.
