O'Connor is doing everything right. O'Connor went to church, prayed sincerely, read CS Lewis and other apologists, and studied philosophy and theology in St. John's College.

Well I do not remember Jesus instructing anybody to do all that make work. Is any of all that right?
I have no idea if he is doing anything wrong, or anything right. Perhaps he bored God with all that stuff and God decided he would wait twenty years to call..... or not.

Read it with real intent asking God if these things are not true, and if he will ask with real intent and a sincere heart he will join
Mormonism...... oh wait....

Well he could stop all that pointless reading and go to a baseball game. Perhaps trout fishing or sit under a tree. He could visit friends perhaps get a job.

Dianetics. Then he can use that against Gemli. Reminding him that you can't dogmaticly ignore other spirtual texts that support the supernatural.

I know, he is just a lazy atheist who will never convert to Christianity. I guess god doesn't have the time to convert European atheists.

Doubting Thomas, I am a little surprised at the difficulty you are having in hearing what I am saying.

So he has read a bunch of things where in people think about the meaning of their received cultural religion and sometimes their own personal experiences. This could be interesting and could make the fellow into a cultural historian. I do not think there is much reason to think all that should make him believe in God or Jesus.
I am sympathetic enough with mystics to say reading them is zero help but emptying oneself of all that excess self might be a help.
I am otherwise inclined to say God has zero obligation to convert any particular person no matter how hard they work or perhaps stand on their head.
