This episode of “The Daily” steps through a terrific synopsis of Utah’s impending environmental “nuclear bomb,” or the drying up of the Great Salt Lake. Rising population, global warming, irresponsible water use are leading to serious issues with lake levels, which models say will rapidly cause awful ripple effects.

The scary truth is that those ripple effects may have already begun, creating a negative spiral. Less snowfall, leads to less runoff replenishment, and then there is less water available to for important mining industries, collapse in ecology as brine shrimp reproduction stops near current lake levels… hazardous heavy metals exposed to the air as lake levels fall, which become airborne and could cause an acute health crisis for residents.

Perhaps Larsen should be elected prophet of the church to salvage Brigham Young’s Utah vision.

The prophet's ability to prophesy, see, and revelate extends only to the finances of the Mormon church's hedge funds.

They've done quite well, and I imagine Dan will discuss how they could only be that rich if the church was true during his next FairMormon talk.

What are the Church's hedge funds?
I know they have many funds, I have never worked with a specific hedge fund that is owned by either the President or the Presiding Bishop corporations.

If either of the corporations are taking short positions, that would be fascinating to know those trades and positions.

This was one of the reasons my wife and I decided to bump. We were already a gnat’s ass away from moving due to various issues the Wasatch Front has, but dust storms from the Lake only tipped the scales in favor of moving. I wonder how many people will think this through and follow through? Salt Lake, well really the legislature, has boxed itself in. Refineries in N. SL, large quarries, highways intersecting the city, the inversion, little regulation responding to ground realities, the inland port, and so on showed us that people in the valley have no intention to protect the very environment they’re living in.

If real estate is any indicator we might be seeing transplants following in our footsteps here in rural Utah. Unfortunately, if history is any indicator, the problems with growth will be repeated and we might end up bumping again if we’re living in another version of SLC.

LMFAO.

The refineries, quarries, highways and inversion were all there before I was born. If people moved closer to those things, and are now bitching about it, oh well. I think if we just have more ballots by mail or dropbox, we can get rid of those refineries and import more refined fuel by roads and rail, that should solve the problem.

Hey, how are we getting fuel and electricity to the rural parts of Utah now? Gravity?

Good decision on moving. Those ever increasing dust storms are carrying all kinds of toxic, cancer causing heavy metals from decades of dumping factory/industrial waste into the Great Salt Lake. Thanks Utah!

Kind of funny. Visiting with an Indian friend of mine in CA, and his neighbor is full-blown QAnon. He was bragging about his crossbow and asking what my (very liberal) friend was going to eat when society breaks down. My friend said, "I have fruit trees". The guy's like, "Oh yeah good point." ha. Yeah, I take back about 20 pounds of fruit every time I visit, and Q guy gets all he wants on a daily basis. (for years though, he complained about the trees, apparently, until they began to produce. Right-wingers are really sensitive about things like, their property line and so on."
