Quest for the Gold Plates: Thomas Stuart Ferguson's Archaeological Search for the Book of Mormon.
Ah, by Stan Larson. When you said "Ferguson's book" I thought perhaps you meant one of the books authored by Ferguson (e.g. 'Cumorah—Where?' or 'Great Message of Peace and Happiness').
It’s been so long ago that I read the book I forgot it was actually written by someone else.

I should have looked it up on Amazon before saying anything.

Old memory.

the dowsing shot from that "expedition" has always been my favorite. that's a pretty intense look on the guy's face.

I’m pretty sure that it was Wayne May that came and did a fireside for our ward one year sponsored by the Elder’s Quorum. Ferguson’s son, through his dad, had connections with May.

All kinds of theories out there.

Which continually lowers the probability of any of it being true. The more theories, the less probable it all becomes, not the more probable. You know, Bayes Theorem and all that....
