The LDS church wants journalism to reform
Re: The LDS church wants journalism to reform
Kirton McConkie is girding up its loins to challenge a story of its misdeeds. It is sending out an LDS author from Meridian Magazine to practice the mind trick: This is not the discernment and clerical responsibility you are looking for.

"We beseech thee oh Lord to remove both our conscience and our memories of this event so that we can be trouble-free Sic-et-Noners. We say this in the name of the Dan, the Kiwi, and the grumpious Midgley, Ramen."

The poster makes a great point. Mormons can’t keep their mouths shut and mind their own business … until it comes to protecting a child rapist? The moral compass of this organization is awful.Priest-penitent privilege this, priest-penitent privilege that.

This is not an actual principle in Mormonism.
As a 16 year old, how did my best friend know that my dad had his temple recommend taken away because he didn’t believe in the historicity of the Book of Mormon. He knew this long before I did (his dad was in the bishopric).
As a missionary, why did my mission president tell me that a few of my companions were breaking the law of chastity?
As a ward clerk in my early 20s, why was I privy to the sexual activity of other ward members.
As a counselor in a bishopric, why was I privy to marital strife of members of my ward when that information was surely given only to the bishop in confidence? Why did I, once again, know the sexual activity/pornography use of ward members as a counselor in the bishopric when that information was also given directly to the bishop in confidence?
When I was vulnerable with my elders quorum president and bishop about not being able to carry out the duties of ward mission leader anymore, why was my name discussed in ward council to see if I could be talked back into it, and how did this information make it to a random woman in the ward with no connection to ward council (she brought it up to my wife in a brief conversation)?
And just recently I was open and honest and said I needed to step away for a time and wouldn’t you know it now the missionaries call me.
Priest-penitent privilege doesn’t actually exist in day to day Mormonism. It’s just a convenient excuse for not reporting SA.

Hugh Nibley claimed he bumped into Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Gertrude Stein, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Romanoff. Dishonesty is baked into Mormonism.

Yep. The bishop told everyone I knew in the ward that I had my name removed. I didn't authorize him to do this and I specifically said in my letter I wanted it to be private.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 12:17 amFrom Reddit:

Church has enough problems with the small number of outspoken ex member critics. What happens when the whole world starts interrogating their dishonesties?
Re: The LDS church wants journalism to reform
and the guy the ap article is about was excommunicated, which means multiple people also knew then, right?drumdude wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 12:45 amYep. Re: The LDS church wants journalism to reform
The bishops were asked about his excommunication during trial, it’s not clear if the police had heard about his excommunication from ward members or just from the bishops. If the family really was weird and didn’t have many friends in the ward then the bishop may not have told anyone.
Re: The LDS church wants journalism to reform
agreed, but my point was that claiming priest-penitent privilege in general when the policy is to tell multiple people about someone's sins for excommunication, etc. sounds like just an excuse.drumdude wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 1:44 pmThe bishops were asked about his excommunication during trial, it’s not clear if the police had heard about his excommunication from ward members or just from the bishops.
