An Indiana couple rolled out an LGBTQ+ friendly welcome mat in front of their home, only for the decor to deter a pair of Mormon missionaries from even knocking on their door.
Jamie Foust, 28, and her wife Melissa, 32, initially purchased a rainbow-trimmed doormat reading “Gayest Place in Town” from Target in June because they thought it was funny.
Two months later, on August 23, their doorbell camera captured two Mormon missionaries approaching their home, armed with the word of the Lord.
In the brief clip, the clean-cut young men can be seen reaching the threshold, until one looks down and reads the word “gayest” out loud.
The discovery is quickly followed by a “nope,” and the pair sauntered away.

IHAQ, as usual because of your predisposition to judge based upon your perceptions of ALL members of the church and your biased views of the church and its doctrines/practices, you are going to look at those missionaries as guilty until proven innocent.
Giving away my age, and perhaps being committed to antiquity ( ), I was on an LDS mission in Georgia in 1978 when the revelation about blacks and the priesthood/temple eligibility was announced. Even for 5 months after that, the prior prohibition against tracting in 'black neighborhoods' was continued. If in other neighborhoods a black person answered the door, we were to respectfully just give a short message of importance of believing in and following the teachings of Jesus, not mention the name of the church, and then just leave. We were only permitted to give the discussions to a black person who specifically asked us to learn about the LDS church.
I'm not defending that policy for tracting, but wonder what the LDS Church's policy for missionaries is now, at this time towards missionaries teaching gay/lesbian people.

I think the “Elders” (what a weird term to call 18-year-olds) are in a tricky situation. I don’t envy them. They’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t. I recall evangelizing in Peru and would occasionally come across a home with one of those “This is a CATHOLIC HOME. Absolutely NO SOLICITATIONS are welcome here!” I felt horrible about knocking on the door, but we were told to bring the gospel to everyone. Period. We, of course, caught an earful every time we’d disregard the sign. It felt bad on multiple levels, and I regret knocking on those doors - it was very disrespectful to violate the sanctity of their private space and wishes. If I had to do it over again I’d do what those “Elders” do, and walk away.

I asked a reasonable question, I didn't make a judgement. The point about showing respect for people who aren't Mormon's is an interesting one, in that the entire missionary premise of proactively preaching to others, the content of the the 'preach my gospel' manual, is geared towards not respecting people who aren't Mormons enough to leave them alone. Missionaries aren't instructed to leave people alone. Missionaries are targeted and trained to approach people without any invitation to do so - in their homes, on buses, at funerals, in public spaces etc etc etc.

It is fairly common, I believe, for people with strongly-held views to regard questioning of their views as attacks on them and their views. This may result in defensive moves, and in a contention like: "You may have phrased it as a question, but it was an implied and unjustified criticism and attack." It's also not uncommon for the defender to display an apparent lack of awareness of how their "defensive" accusations of bias etc. might apply to themselves.
That I see this in MG's response will likely confirm to him my biases against "ALL members of the church ... and its doctrines/practices".
