Dan McClellan has a new book out:

Haven't read it, but thought others may be interested. And it does sound interesting.

A Youtube vid interviewing him:

Haven't watched this either, but hopefully will find time soon.
Daniel O. McClellan addresses the longstanding question of how it is that divine images could be referred to as if they both were and were not the deities they represented. Drawing insights from the fields of cognitive linguistics and the cognitive science of religion, McClellan develops a theoretical framework for divine agency and divine images in ancient Southwest Asia that explains this apparent paradox. He then applies that framework to the Hebrew Bible to show that the presence of the God of Israel was similarly manifested through material media devoted to precisely that purpose.
Sounds good enough to me. That people have believed in and worshipped deities for so long in human history is noteworthy. And I really like the idea of exploring deity thought and teaching across culture and discipline.

I was surprised to learn that some people from TEDS had heard of him.

He's doing well for himself. I'm happy to see it.

Oh wow. Very generous.

Thank you MetaProf for sharing it.

Skimming through the chapter on the Ark of the Covenant as a cultic image, and excited to read more.
