For a number of years I listened to his podcast almost religiously.

Double entendre.

Then I lost my religion.

He’s still at it. His missionary outreach brings coverts into his religion of no religion.

I got out while I still could. Whew!

MG
Fascinating. I never understood people who felt threatened by post-Mormon podcasters. I always thought the LDS Church was the biggest threat to its members’ faith.

YMMV.

Where does the hostility originate?
Socialism.

Why does it seem that ex-Mormon community depends on a few men who want to profit off people's emotions?
We’re cultists who belong to a new secular religion.

Hugh Nibley claimed he bumped into Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Gertrude Stein, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Romanoff. Dishonesty is baked into Mormonism.

I think it has to do with the wolf in sheep’s clothing thing. At one time these podcasters, John and Zilpha Larsen, Dehlin, RFM, and others were supposedly ‘sheep’ in the fold. They were ‘duped’ along with the other sheep. Once they found out the ‘truth’ in regards to Mormonism and left they were looked to somewhat as shepherds who somehow had ‘authority’ because of their previous status in the church.

Many in the flock followed their new masters/shepherds.

Then there were those that saw through what they perceived to be a charade and look(ed) at them as more or less wolves ready to devour those that were susceptible to their wiles.

I think John Dehlin’s outreach has financial motives at this point. It’s a living. A good living.

Can’t speak for Larsen and RFM, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some financial motivation for them too.

Yeah, that stuff about seeking the money is just a cheap, easy slur. So unoriginal and overused. So far from reality.

Yes, you are absolutely clueless on this point. Completely.

Not from my vantage point. At least in the case of Dehlin.

Be that as it may, you are entitled to your own opinion.

If you think John Dehlin went through all of the crap he endured 24/7 for decades just for the reasonable salary he managed to work toward after all this time, you are a fool. You may not like his show, but it is absurd to claim that he is motivated principally by money. If you were to inaccurately claim he was motivated by Satan, or pure hatred for God’s work, that would probably be closer than this asinine, lazy insult.

And that’s a cheap answer. Much cheaper than the lifestyle Dehlin is able to benefit from as a podcaster capitalizing on his ‘insider’s view’ of Mormonism.

Beats Microsoft, I guess.
