Over the last 3 years, the LDS church claims it has increased the number of charitable projects and presumably, the amount of charitable donations (on average) by 10% each year:

What is interesting is if you extrapolate this 10% growth each year out to the year 2050. At a rate of 10% increase each year, that will put the LDS church at 15 billion in worldwide donations by 2050.

For context, last year, the top 100 US charities combined took in about 55 billion total in donations.

This would be great news, except there's one snag... the average growth in LDS giving over the last 3 years is 10%. But that is based on a 12% increase in 2020, and an 8% increase in 2021.

Will the church actually continue the 10% pace, or will it slow down to a much more meager and less remarkable 2-3%? I know which one I'm betting on...

Gave 2000 dollars to 2000 homeless people, 2000 projects added!

Except they will not actually donate anything. They will count any time volunteered by their members and place a dollar amount on it. They will count tithing intake as a charitable contribution, even though the money never actually leaves the church coffers. They will give five dollars to the Red Cross and claim that they are "participating in worldwide relief efforts". And on and on. As a certain well-known podcaster recently pointed out, the church leadership simply does not know how to tell the truth.

That's simply a reflection of what additional contributions members (not the Church as an organisation) have given in cash, time, materials etc. The article is not talking about how tithing is being used. The article is not talking about the hoarded cash. It's a smoke and mirrors article designed to make members and the interested public (and most importantly the IRS) think the Church is a charity, rather than a profit making real estate and investment company. Reports from LDS Charities are smokescreens.
