Holland - Missionaries who leave the Church flagrantly lack integrity

In yet another bombastic display of his lack of understanding of others, Holland had this to say to a group of youth...
He promised the missionaries that they would go home different than when they arrived. “You will either be better or worse. But you will never be the same. What you were when you left does not exist anymore. You have seen too much, you know too much, you have been taught too much.”

Elder Holland said missionaries who ask those they teach to change their lives for the Church, only to return home and not be true to it themselves, are “flagrantly compromising their integrity.”

In saying those words, he gives members another slur for people who leave the Church. Alongside, lazy, wanted to sin, offended, etc. Holland now gives us "lacks integrity". What an insidiously corrosive and threatening message to give a group of young people. Holland lied about the Strengthening Church Members Committee and about Temple Blood Oaths in a tv interview. What does that say about your integrity Jeff?

Stopping attending and believing in the church is how I reclaimed my integrity. I wonder what Holland thinks about all the kids that still believe in Santa when they are baptized, have they also lost their integrity?

I feel it would have been a lack of integrity for me to continue to support a church that defends sexual predators, but maybe that's just me.

There's long been the accusation of members breaking covenants when they leave, and thus lacking integrity. Its been a common theme, although I think it's been dying the past decade or two as some members don't wish to portray that type of message. But this is old school approach from him. He's doing what religion often does--go back to tradition, to an imagined brighter day. If you can put shame on those who leave, you can embolden those that stay. That kind of thing. He's playing the game that religion has played for forever. Traditional Christianity would often murder those who didn't buy it. His pull out the musket's imagery was more of the same. "well he didn't mean that we ought to really shoot people, but its a metaphor. We ought to fight people who disagree with us." Its the same as Jesus' "i didn't come to bring peace, but a sword" stuff. You know the "hate your mom and dad or brother and sister" and 'love me the mostest' thing. This goes all the way back.

I’m sure this will shore up the retention problem.

I wonder if Holland thinks his 'church' has honesty and integrity when it pens a series of 12 essays admitting to what used to be 'anti-Mormon lies' back in 2014 and then buries them on its website only to be discovered by those looking for them while continuing to send missionaries out into the world and peddling the same Joseph Smith narrative to investigators that they've admitted isn't the way it really happened?

It would show integrity to admit past deceptions and apologize for insinuating that past Church racism came from God. Until such time, it seems highly hypocritical to accuse those who leave to be lacking integrity.

In other words, the mean spirited Holland is not a true Christian. He's a fake who performs Mormonism for his own glory and attention and all is vanity. He has all the benefits and accommodations he desires. Holland is not a Christian. I don't give a damn what he says or how many times he testifies. He's a fake.

Nope. It’s not just you. Thankfully.
