In yet another sign that "if you build them they will come" isn't working, Nelson went to Nevada, California and Arizona to bang the drum and tell the members they aren't doing enough.

President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints urged members of the faith in Nevada and some parts of California and Arizona, on Sunday to increase their preparation for worship in a house of the Lord.
“The covenants and eternal truths of the temple are at the heart of the gospel,” the prophet said in a live broadcast from the auditorium of the Church Office Building on Temple Square. “Every time a temple is dedicated, more light comes into the world. Every time we go to the temple, our lives are reinforced by that light and by the covenants we make with God. In the temple, we are endowed with the Lord’s power and blessed to have His angels round about us. In this day of intensifying evil, there is nothing that will protect us more than regular time in the temple.”

He went on to really dumb it down for those slacking Saints with a Sesame Street ABC...

President Nelson shared what he called his ABCs of personal preparation for worship in a temple:
A is for ancestors
B is for being prepared for worship in a house of the Lord
C is for children and the need to teach them truth
The prophet urged Saints to research their genealogy and engage in the temple’s vicarious service of salvation for ancestors. To better prepare for worship in a temple, President Nelson encouraged Church members to study the new “For the Strength of Youth” guide. And he taught parents to fill their children’s minds with truth.

...before demonstrating he doesn't understand children, nor the difference between truth and conditioning.

“Children are instinctively receptive to truth,” he said. “So, parents and teachers, please take advantage of every opportunity to teach them correct principles. … Tell stories from the scriptures. Teach your children how to pray. Teach them that God is their Heavenly Father and He will help them. Let them see you going to the temple. And when a loved one dies, teach your children … that because of Jesus Christ, we can be with each other again as we keep our sacred covenants.”

Children, as parents everywhere can attest, will believe anything. Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny etc, along with more harmful behaviours that parents install in their kids. Children are instinctively receptive to conditioning - he either knows that and is being deliberately deceptive, or he doesn't know that and is unwittingly demonstrating that he should have spent more time with his kids when they were young, rather than being an absent father due to prioritising work, church, and glad handing/networking.

Children do not have the ability to weigh evidence and so they accept by default anything someone tells them as true.


That’s why the church is so focused on indoctrinating them before they have all the facts and the ability to judge them for themselves.


If they could send 16 year olds on missions they would.

The temple is the great "MacGuffin" of Mormonism. Children are unaware of it and, so, they make the perfect audience to accept the temple as their only source of full salvation.

The salvation that Jesus offers is chicken-feed salvation without the temple to enhance and amplify it into full salvation. That doesn't make sense to many adults looking at Mormonism from the outside (or even from the inside), but children accept things as truth when trusted grown-ups tell them. (And, accepting something "as truth" doesn't mean it's "the truth". Children accept the reality of Santa Claus "as truth", until they later learn it isn't "the truth".)
